:p Mundine undecided on next opponent
by STAFF REPORTERS

"A potential Mundine opponent"
The next opponent for super-middleweight world title aspirant Anthony Mundine has yet to be decided, as Mundine’s management awaits reports from rehabilitation wards in Australia’s major hospitals.

Fresh from yet another first round win, over Brazil’s Rogerio Cacciatore on the Gold Coast, Monday night, Mundine and his handlers began monitoring ambulances first thing Tuesday.

“We haven’t made a decision yet. It’s still early,” said trainer Johnny Lewis. “There’s a promising contender in Adelaide General, who still can’t use either arm and is in a wheelchair after a nasty car accident, but he might have recovered too much in two months, when we’re looking to fight.”

A couple of brain surgery patients, who have no sense of vertical balance at all six months into their rehabilitation, have signed preliminary papers, with the assistance of carers. Either of these 60-year-olds can be accepted by the Mundine camp up to 24 hours from the fight date, depending on how they’re progressing.

Lewis confirmed that international scouts were keeping an eye on potential challengers in South America. “Cacciatore was everything we could have hoped for,” he said. “Looked big and strong, danced like a genuine fighter, took two punches and dropped like a stone, taking Anthony to 18-1. All we need is another few like him.”

Where are you geting this? The WBA site can't back up your claim.

Being a 'super' champ gives Ottke 18 months to defend his title against his mandatory so Mundine could be in for a loooooooong wait.

Really chileman why do you bother? That’s a really old article that’s been played to death and is not relevant to anything. Yes el duque Ottke does get a time frame to defend unless ordered otherwise by the wba, they recently had a “convention” and that’s where the negotiating took place and when the 6 month for a rematch was ordered, I don’t know if they post things like that on their site just yet as both fighters are having 2 fights before that one so they may choose to wait a while… or they may just be slack in updating their web site which is not uncommon for boxing organisations.

Mundine targets Ottke!
By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing
WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine stated he is seeking a return contest with former conqueror WBA/IBF champion Sven Ottke in 2004 . But first he will defend the World Boxing Association super middleweight title against Japanese veteran Yoshinori Nishizawa in Wollongong on January 19."I want a big year in 2004. I want a rematch with Sven Ottke. That is my number one concern," said Mundine, who suffered a tenth round knockout by Ottke in Dortmund, Germany in December 2001.Nishizawa' at 37 years of age has scored 24 wins - 12 by knockout with 13 losses and five draws. Nishizawa at this time isn't in the WBA ratings but Mundine has been assured by officials of that organization the Japanese boxer will be in their next rankings so the fight can proceed. Australian and former world light heavyweight and cruiserweight world title contender Guy Waters scored an easy points win over the Japanese boxer. Mundine knocked Water's out in two rounds in 2001. "I'm certainly not taking him lightly because he's going to have the determination and the will to win and you can't take anyone easy." Anthony Mundine won a twelve round points decision over American Antwun Echols in Sydney - september 2003 to win the WBA 168 lb title.
