My season review - Sack Sheens

4 years in a row with no finals. Crucial match against the Titans, we go in with 2 injured props, one who can't complete the game, and a fit Daine Laurie is nowhere to be seen. Our best halfback Moltzen plays out of position because mastercoach sees him as a fullback, he has a shocker, is out of position all night, and a young kid Lui has pressure put on him he is not ready for this year. Get rid of Sheens. We have the team to make the finals, Sheens just wont pick them or play them in the right position.

On a positive note - Ellis is the buy of the year by a country mile, not just for the Tigers who have basicly recruited no-one, but Eliis is the NRL buy of the year imo. The man's one on one defense is scary, the amount of times he rattles the opposition forcing a turn over and giving us another chance is amazing. He is a man mountain, and Gareth - I salute you.

Another year of not giving a rats arse about finals football...

Enough said for now, I have deleted half my post as inappropriate personal attacks or pure ranting....

Mate. I don't know what to say. I'm just gutted. I had become so used to mediocrity before 05. I wish we had never had 05 now because it makes every season so much harder to take. It was so much easier when I knew our team was bad and incapable of making the semi's. This team is far too good to be so underperforming.

Can't argue with most of that.

In previous seasons I truly believe our lack of effort at this time of the year was disgusting. We improved ten fold on that this year. But we always fall just short. f**king sick and tired of it.

The problem this season was the team selection. Sticking with Morris in the halves for so long crippled us. Why did it take so long to remove him from the halves?

And yes Ellis is amazing.

This team SHOULD make the semis, provided we sign a CLASS prop (Burgess please) and players are picked in their correct positions. If we don't sign a prop it will again be the same story in 2010.

Ummm what can u say.. I think tonight the game was lost by the experienced players , the new guys didnt really do anything that lost the game . Farah scored 2 than farked it all when it counted with a crappy kick to give away field position which lead to a try. We seen most of the tigers normal traits tonight..you know the ones..throw away a lead..or not being able to take control of a game up for grabs .
I wasnt a fan of Moltzen playing fullback but tonight i dont think that cost us the game...last week maybe ? Oh well another year gone, what else can ya say.

So in round 25 we've gotten 2 points in our whole existence, and that was a bye. 0 from 9.

We were never going to win this game. We need to make a sacrifice to the god of round 25.

I won't blame Farah, he rolled the dice and lost.

He's been playing injured for the last two months and carried us tonight until that error.

Moltzen's positioning in defence is terrible at fullback.

I wouldn't sack Sheens unless you had someone better lined up. Like Saints with Bennet and Brown.

I agree a decent front rower is needed. But more importantly, someone has to step up as a consistant goalkicker. Benji hitting 68% isn't getting the job done. We saw it last week and again tonight. We go up in 4's and they go up in 6's. You can't make the finals by relying on scoring at least 2-3 tries more than the opposition to make up for the missed goals.

Another year down the drain, why?? All the usual reasons a very average forward pack except one gaint of a player (the big Pom). A team that will always take the risk rather than play the grind. A team that balance is always out of wack. A team that never uses its bench properly. A coach that rarely reacts to the bloody obvious. A team that is always happy to point the finger at injuries, bad calls and perceived badluck.

To be blessed with Farah,Marshall,Ellis,Lawerence,Galloway,Tnt and others and come up empty year after years is not acceptable. Maybe its time to look at the KPI's again!!

We sign up a couple of nuffty outside backs for 2010 and so far the forwards look the same, you know this time next year we will be typing the same crap.

Sheens runs the place and is only responsible for the good days, all the bad ones are the players and the refs and the weather and the stars and what ever else. I would love to read his review of 2009, my guess he just crossed out 2008

Sheens is probably on more money than Marshall which is why our recruitment has been virtually non-existant.

Sheens thinks that Moltzen is our answer at fullback, anyone with eyes can see he has absolutely no idea in that position, eg Hayne's chip kick try last week, a real fullback positions himself in front of Hayne for a collision regardless of who gets the ball, tonight when he is trapped in goal because a real fullback dives low EVERY time to escape, I could go on and on....

Did Sheens miss the fact that it was Marshall / Moltzen in the halves that sparked winning form? I realise we beat the 2nd last placed Sharks with Moltzen at fullback, but the local female spastic centre team would have put 50 on Cronulla...

Did Sheens miss the fact that he replaced a front rower in Bryce Gibbs with a lock forward in Halatau? That Laurie was good enough to be 18th man last week, but when someone who plays his position gets hurt, he doesn't get a look in. Oh, my bad, mastercoach thinks Laurie is a back rower, thank f**k Pat Richards didn't come back or he'd probably be playing front row...

Sheens has had 4 friggin long years to do something, and despite his piss poor recruitment, this year he had the personel to make it but he would not put the right people on the field, and important people he did play were in the wrong positions.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, John Lang took Cronulla from cellar dwellars to consistant semi finalists and then won a flag with a Penrith team that were no chance. He is known to be a people person, someone who can get the best out of his players, he is available, and it will break the Benji / Sheens love affair and hopefully get the Farah / Marshall relationship back where it needs to be.

Tim Sheens - thank you for 2005, I will be eternally grateful and salute you for it, please recognise that you have been defunct of ideas for the last 4 years and your player recruitment barring Ellis has relected that, I hear Newcastle has nice weather and I'm willing to drive you there personally.

What's that old saying - there are 2 great years for a Tigers supporter, 2005, and next year...

HOW THE FRIGGIN HELL DID THIS TEAM NOT MAKE THE FINALS!!!

Who's going to sack Sheens?
Mr Humphries?
The guy who owes his job to Tim...yeh right, the guy has about as much backbone as a quadriplegic earthworm....looking at him at Gibbs judiciary hearing.
Hes a yes man

Then unless Sheens can grow some backbone and admit the impossible, that he was WRONG, that he made MISTAKES, we are farked for next year. Because we have all the tools available to us for success, this team should not have failed AGAIN, we just need someone with the courage to admit errors (ala Daniel Anderson playing Jarrod Hayne at 6) and with the right people in the right positions for the FULL season...

Well I certainly hope Humphreys does put the entire outfit under the microscope and make some calls and not just let things run their course ie wait for contracts to expire.

Persistent problems for years:

* lack of a tactical field kicker. WT have not had a good kicker for a long time. We hardly get any 40-20's and kicking for the line and deep kicks are not good.

* poor player selection ie coaching staff selecting players out of their best positions and playing favourites in team selection. (And to top it off the coach not accepting situation and only making suitable changes too late to effect the seasons outcome this year- how much has missing the finals cost us this year Mr Sheens? Will you put your hands in your pocket to make up the difference for not shifting players and bringing Gallant into the team a few weeks earlier as everyone else was screaming at you? Those few potential points now would be great wouldnt they?)

* lack of depth in specialist prop positions- coaching staff have come to their own opinion despite evidence everywhere else that prop is not a specialist position and no depth is required to cover for injuries. Backrowers can fill in.

* goal kicking success rate is not good enough- WT need at least 1 player in the team each week than has an average of 75% success rate. Too many games have been lost where WT scored enough tries but could not overtake an equal team through poor goal kicking - giving the opposition the advantage. (Note- if we are designing our team to take advantage of the wingers to score eg TNT that means a large percentage of shots at goal will be from acute angles rather than in front- this is an important consideration. Marshall is not good enough)

* field goals- almost non existant at WT. Few kickers and field positioning in the tight games is bad. WT would rather try for a 4 pointer.

* sh*thouse recruitment and retention.

If this was just 1 year and the teams underperformance was a once off the coach can escape blame. This has been 4 years now and is has to be more than just the players fault. Sheens and Simmons have to put their hands up and accept accountability. Whether that means they go is another question but they should at least make the offer to resign.

2009 = FAILURE

Sheens sabotaged the season in rounds eight through sixteen experimenting with stupidity. Sack Sheens, McDonnell and Simmons now before we have to endure the annual post-mortem being the same excuses as 2006, 2007 and 2008.

I just can't see why you would keep Sheens and Simmons?
We need new ideas and a new coach ..look at Canterbury and St. George.

And Warren McDonnell is so far out of his depth, I don't know how he has survived. We need someone like Mollholland who actually gets out there and watches football games.

Sack Sheens and co? Pffft.....We cant even afford to buy decent players let alone terminate and payout these fools. Burgess looks all but signed with Russle the love muscle so we aint gettin a 'quality' prop any time soon.
Same old pissweak pack and crap next year for sure.

Tigers are maybe 2 props and a solid half off being a ligit contender.

a guy like Jeff Robson would be a good buy for that team. A cheap, solid half who does the dirty work and doesnt let you down. He'd be a good compliment to the flair of Benji, Farah + Moltzen.

To be totally honest im not overly disapointed missing out on the 8, altho its disapointing to the fans and the players who put in 100% i believe after Tim Sheens coaching performance this year he doesnt deserve the honours of having a finals birth on his CV. He got the result that HE manufactured and as arogant as he is i really hope that deep inside he is feeling some pain and regret...... Doubt it tho.
Good points for the year:
TNT had a great year pity he cant go for top try scorer, Ellis was superb, And Benji had an injury free year with his shoulders.

Settle dowm fellas....
At the start of the year we were equall favs to win the spoon-
If Tui and Ryan hadn't have gone off against Para we would of won - in the end we still scored the same amount of trys...

I think next year will be a big year for us...Im not to upset this year for not making the 8.. Sheens has acknowledged the recruitment has been poor and looks to let go of 3 back rowers....what is the big deal about scraping in and getting nocked out first week..... ( para stayle)

We just need a goal kicker and 2 props....and we will be top 4.... f**k the 8 lets go top 4 again...

But the best thing about his year by FAR is Benji will get a full offseason- a little bit bigger and better in defence...and more confident.......

He has been on fire the last half of the year if he can improve a little and be consitent a Dally M could be on his way...
