Got there for the Flegg and saw a few players the looked classy.
J Rawaz, P karam and number 38 a Big islander Charlie ?? Also number 14 on the programs ??
Charlie was impressive. He is a fit guy for his size. Apparently available for SG BALL. He was brought in as he has some talent. He made many hitups and was hard to contain. Front rower.
Rawaz is a very good yard maker and hits the line with lots of Vigour. Backrower.
Karam is the halfback and looked quite sharp.
Flegg was very impressive. But the ref in that game blew 25 penalties i think and destroyed the flow of the game.
Clint Greenshields was Fantastic and reads the game extremely well, he knows whats going on, and can play football quite well. a fullback/ Five eight.
Reece wellinngton, small fella, was not given much ball.
Roberts. is a huge bloke for the centres. Took many hit ups from dummy half, and make a couple of good tackles, although the play did not go down his side too much. Would like to see him running into gaps and running with power. Has potential and size to be a good footballer, but must have more of a go.
Creagh looked outstanding. Continually cut down raids, Made a heap of yards and was very safe. He looked way too good for PL.
Frew, got into the game, got involved heavily and is very quick. looks to be a good buy.
A Beath got injured early and never really spotted him after that.
M head, was all class. another who could make the grade in Firsts although a different league in FG with his size. But he is class.
R powell, played one of his best games for the club. a Few good passes and has some speed about him a good defender.
B Norrie played very well tonight, in defence was a rock and was good in attack, without being brilliant.
Katu, is strong, but I need to see more of him before i make any judgement.
Poore was not himself. Made a couple of errors early, although his defence is very strong. Just was not there last night. Needs to put his hand up.
Gorrell. Played mostly halfback when head went off and played outstanding. A class act. Another bloke who is going places. Way too good for PL.
Wycliff Palu.. Out Bloddy standing Talent. What skill for King Kong. He set up 2 trys, and was hard to contain. His defence was very good for a convert, but lacks fitness. He is way too big and not mobile enough for First grade. if they can manage to strip another 10 kilos off him, and get an extra 15 /20 mins. he could be anything.
He is all class for a big man. oustanding ball playing prop.
------------
Reserves,
Shackelton played quite well,
Wheatley although he made a couple of handling errors, runs the ball strongly, looks to be strong around the hip region, and is hard to stop.
Shaun Vidito had a very good game, and he looks like a good prospect. Did some very smart things out there, and was very sound in defence .
T Head, never got enough match time to make predictions on him just yet.
J dykes played Dumb. He continually stood offside, and payed no attention to the ref and where he was supposed to be standing whilst in the defensive line. other than that, he looks allright, but needs more football.
D jiminez, never saw enough. But looks average.
D noble another big bloke who has potential.
---------------
Hornby, looks to have stepped up another gear. This guy was just oustanding . Safe as a bank, and gave the rabbits no peace in attack or defence.
Blacklock. It's good to see tingha in the frame of mind that goes looking for work, but he must support his centre more in FG. The centres are not wingers, so when Gaz comes back it would be good for him to have Tingha beside him.
Howell, proved many people wrong with a strong performance. Did nothing wrong, and made a couple of great tackles, when there was some danger. Got left once with 2 on 1, as no one supported him from the inside. Looks to have matured.
Cooper. Defensively, brilliant. You can not pass this guy, and when he tackles you, you know about it.
Simmonds. All heart, made no mistakes, a solid game.
Barrett. Looked rusty at times, but that is to be expected, as the game wore on, he got better and better. Put in a few ripper kicks and set up a super try, and scored one himself. Needs game time.
Russell, did not look fazed, altough he does not possess a threat to the line. Can Work the team around the park, and is a very strong kid with a good kicking game.
Timmins as usual, outstanding. Running off barrett and firman this year, he may have his best season if he can stay fit.
Thommo, was sparingly used tonight, made a couple of handling mistakes, but looks strong and classy. A good forward leader.
Dean young was extremely good tonight. a punishing defender and a yard maker. A bloke who does not make mistakes often. Not enough game time as we were trialling others. But looks to be super confident in himself and his ability. he knows he has lots of competition, and looks to have stepped up from last season.
Bailey was bailey. and will only be bailey. Enuf said about Superman.
Riddell, had a powerfull game in defence, continually smashing and taking out his best mate in G hall. Was not his usual self from dummy half, offloaded more than usual.
Long, was extremely Solid. his no nonsense game fits us to a tee. A Big yard maker, who hits very very hard in defence. An expeienced bloke who will serve us well. Will be hard to toss from first grade after that performance. He has continued from where he left off.
-------------
Sims.. Will make us the best Forwards in the comp a Super game from a gifted footballer. He has skill and now confidence in himself, and it showed tonight. Last year he was content not to make mistakes nor offloads. he unleashed last night, and that was only a sight of things to come. Once he gets Ben and tingha running off him, look out. he will set up a number of tries this year. He hurt his thumb last night, but told the trainer it's not too bad. He has grown allright, and god love the big Fella.
Kite was powerfull in attack and defence. he has a tendancy to run to his left, and finds it hard to run straight, as he runs to space . Needs to find something this season, as he could get left behind.
Jensen, whilst not setting the world on fire last night, he was very good. he puts himself in the right positions in defence and is a rock. Could be another Brad mackay. He will get better as he plays more, and will possibly play all year in First grade.
Withers, looks to be a good option, although Goz put the writing on the wall last night, with a Super, Halfback/ hookers game. Withers is great for team morale in defence as he hits hard and does not take a backward step. which is great for the team, but goz is just sheer class. A good battle looming here. They look like they will share the responsibilities this year. But withers might start ahead of goz early in the season.
Creag looked fantastic coming on in First grade, as did the other kids who ran on .
All in all.
Gorrell, Creagh, Palu, Greenshields, Long, Sims, Hornby, Riddell, Young, Cooper, Timmins Stood out above the rest.
BTW, our defence in PL, and First grade, + the Sevens. Has proven to be outstanding . They all work together very well, and support one another. It seems to be working well in both grades.
Brown and potter must e congratulated on a very good format.
The above is all my Humble opinion. Your thoughts. Your standouts ?
