I think I'll run with the Crows and the Cats, although it wouldn't surprise to see both clubs get rolled.

I'm going to go with Fremantle and Melbourne, even though both are playing interstate.

Fremantle seem primed to start the season well, and it wouldn't suprise me to see them kick a largeish score in TD

Maybe I should have said lucky then... Lucky that there were no champion teams on the field last year.

There was though! They happened to beat the Favourites (WC) in the GF, and beat the second favourites St Kilda in the semis! Just how is that lucky as you so elegantly put it!

Yes there was, the one that won the flag..feel free to come up and visit the cup in the Swans Office at Moore Park, or anytime after Round 2 to see the Premiership Flag flying over the SCG ;-)

Huge win by the Crows, keeping Melbourne goalless in the second half and adding further fuel to suggestions that the Demons may be a tad on the soft side.

Adelaide will win the comp next week and should be in for another strong year.

Good to hear Craig saying that he has them up early fitness wise. Combine that with the fact they're almost at full strength, and our effort against them last week looks even better.

Craig may want to hope that he doesn't have them up too early though. Its more common for struggling sides to get up early as a means of generating some internal confidence, knowing that they'll fall away mid year regardless.

Cats' depth the key

Geelong coach Mark Thompson hailed his side's improved depth after the Cats reached their second pre-season grand final in three years, at the expense of Fremantle on Saturday night.

The Cats will take on Adelaide at AAMI Stadium next Saturday night in the NAB Cup grand final after coming from ten points down at the final change to overrun the Dockers at Telstra Dome in the second semi final.

The victory was even more creditable considering the Cats were missing virtually their entire first choice forward line with Brad Ottens, Kent Kingsley, Henry Playfair and Steve Johnson all absent as well as defenders Tom Harley, David Wojcinski and Jarad Rooke.

Thompson said the Cats' high casualty list during the pre-season had given the club the chance to include some promising youngsters such as Brent Prismall and Tom Lonergan, who had made the most of their opportunity during the pre-season.

"It's been a hard few weeks for us," he said.

"We haven't had our full complement of players in any week and tonight was the barest we had been as far as that was concerned.

"It shows the depth of our list is good and that has been one of the most pleasing things to come out of the whole pre-season campaign.

"Without trying excessively hard we have made it to a grand final, which shows we have got talent in our squad and that our talent runs quite deep."

And Thompson now faces a pleasant selection dilemma ahead of next Saturday night's NAB Cup grand final after Ottens, Playfair and Wojcinski all made successful returns from injury in the VFL on Saturday.

"It's a bit early to say (whether that trio will play in next week's grand final) but they all played today and got through okay so we have got some decisions to make."
