We should be tying up a half for next year. Without someone better than Wallace, I doubt we make that final step.

Exactly. There doesn't appear to be any talk on here about any half in our juniors so it looks like we need to buy one or hope Moylan makes the transition to pair up with Sowie.

If only you could have Wallace's toughness, tackling and organising abilities along with Walsh's kicking game all in the one halfback.

Strange how Penrith have a huge nursery, and yet we should have good to great halfbacks getting continually spat out like peas.

But where are they?

We have wasted the talent of our halfbacks with our previously substandard junior development. Sjeika and Austin were two who might have been good if they were managed correctly.

But this problem was identified by Gus many years ago. Our junior football system doesn't encourage kids to pass the ball and develop vision. That is why Gus is setting up a halves academy. We will have to wait a few years to see the benefits of this.

We may be stuck with watching poor old Isaac John struggle a bit longer.

I know every team needs a workhorse. Someone that doesn't really hit it up or tackle too hard. For our team, that was Latimore. Can anyone honestly tell me when the last time was that he took the ball up with some gusto or really put a decent hit on someone? Now we have ET making 75 tackles a game and not really hitting it up too hard. We also have Cartwright who uses nothing but arms in tackles and only wants to pop passes, not hit it up. Lewis Brown is a meter eater, but wouldn't instil too much fear in the opposition. PCG is still young, but doesn't show a lot of aggression in attack of defence. Sika Manu tries hard, but probably too small to really make an impact in defence or attack. So what we have is: Plum in defence and McKendry in attack when he is on his game. To me, that says we are thin in the forwards. Get Myles if he is available.

Their development is ruined through being played out of position, not getting a proper chance or injuries holding them back. We had a lot of potential first grade halves throughout the Elliott years, but there was no development put into these guys and half of our best juniors careers were ruined as a result.

At Manly Joey Johns does a session once a week with all the halves in their system from first grade down to SG ball. Our halves academy should go some way to addressing our issues.

This is completely true, but has it been fixed? A couple of seasons ago when we were discussing any potential half star coming through, Daz said the staff had earmarked Tyrone May as that player. When he started in 20's he was quickly switched to fullback, then lock, and now hooker. Is he not considered an option anymore? Are Edwards and Luke better than him?

There should be three academies. One for the 1,6,7 and 9 (spine). And one for the rest of the backs and one for the rest of the forwards,if there isn't a similar one already.

If the Dragons offer a similar amount, I can't see why he wouldn't. I don't think you can argue that we are obviously a better footballing choice at the moment, so as long as he is not losing out money-wise, I would assume he would favor playing with his current team over uprooting his family.
