While his bowling may not be world conquering stuff, he is an eels supporter. My brother swears he's seen him at home games on a number of occaisions. His girlfriend also features in this month's RALPH magazine. He is a lucky boy.

IMO I think he is a great bowler.
I would hate for people to judge him on his tight but unsuccessful bowling against the Indians. Who were in top shelf form against all bowlers.

And if he's an Eel with a girlfriend featuring in Ralph what more could you ask for!!!!

Bracken needs to do 2 things to stay in the test side. He needs a decent inswinger into the pads, if he can't do that then he needs an extra 10km of pace. His first class average of over 30 is not good enough to make the test team in my opinion but with so many injured bowlers the selectors had no choice. He does contain the batters well though.

Williams made the Test side with a very similar average. BTW Bracken does have a very good inswinger that he used to great effect against the Indians in India thru the ODI's. Given time Bracken will mature into a good Test bowler. His figures for his first three tests are not disimilar to that of McGrath's first three tests given the limited opportunities he was given.

Anybody can swing the white one day ball. In test cricket the red ball is a lot harder to swing as Bracken has found out. As for Williams he is not as fast and mean as portrayed. Australia is very light on quality fast bowlers at the moment. The only test bowler for Australia that troubled the Indians regularly was Jason Gilliespie. Mind you the Indian did bat exceptionally well and the Aussies are going to find it hard to beat them later in the year over there.

In all fairness to Bracken, the Test Pitches weren't exactly a Bowlers Dream...

Look at all the stats and with exception to Kumble none of the other bowlers really got much out of the pitch...

All of the Pitches in the Test Series were a Batters Dream...

No the pitches certainly favoured the batsmen. And I don't know whether Waugh asked him to or Bracken decided to ball around the wicket but hew was hardly a chance of taking a wicket by going around. Look at young Pathan from India he swung the ball and looked more dangerous than Bracken. Like I said he must swing it or increase his pace or he will become another player in and out of the side.

It is the atmoshpere and the bowlers actions that causes the ball to swing, not the pitch. Hence the ball swings more in a more dense atmosphere, like higher relative humidity.

With Bracken's action he tends to bowl across the right handed batsman, and only swings the ball in whan he modifies his action slightly, which he does with the white ball. If he modifies his action too much, the batsman can pick the inswinger.

To swing the red ball he has to modify his action even more. I'm sure that they are all working on this at the moment, as he seems to have a future inplaying for Australia. He has said that he bowls around the wicket to contain the batsman, rather then try to get them out, although he still tends to move the ball away when he bowls around the wicket.

BTW the quicker we get rid of these batsman friendly drop in pitches, the better we will be.

Any way, this is not the cricket forum, so its good to see the boy from the Blue Mountains is an Eel supporter, and I hope he gets over his injury very soon.

I think Bracken has bowled well during the test series.
Ever since I found out he's an Eels supporter, he's become one of my personal favourites lol
