Id like to think so but he has a lot to prove. My bench would be:
14 Utility
15 Widders
16 Stringer
17 Vella

So Cannings would be my first choice and dont rule out Fui. I hear this offseason is shaping up to be his best.

hey this one looks like mine too ;-) but don't forget about Robinson???

Watched the game live at the ground, and Nathan stepped up and did a lot more work and minutes that he probably expected, following the early injury to Jason Cayless. Nathan stood in the middle and tried to soak it up, whenever the Poms came up there.

Again, Nathan was vice captain, acting whenever Rauhihi was off the field. Watching the kiwis behind the posts after tries, and whenever someone pulled off a good tackle, Cayless was there revving them up, and patting them on the bakcs. That's what he adds to a team, beyond his statistical performance. That's why he'll be valuable to keep on the field in 2005. He still does fine in the front row for a "smallish" bloke ;-)

Bench...Robinson, Widders, Perenara/Vella/Stringer(depending on opponents and individual form), T Smith

That gives us an 80 minute back row, but also means that Widders can come on for short stints of maybe 10-15 mins for Wagon and Morrison and really have an impact. It also means we can have 2 or even 3 props on the bench, depending on our opponent, to keep our front row pretty fresh at all times. Tim Smith can come on at halfback when Riddell is subbed, pushing PJ to five-eighth and Morris to hooker. This will allow Morris to have a rest as well if need be, without losing anything in attack.

Why do we want a 80 minute back row? we have such a wealth of Talent in the back row and you only want 3 to play? And Front rowers playing 20 - 30 minutes a game? It just doesn't make sence to me. Having a replacement back rowers such as Widders is going to improve teams attack and defence.

Wagon as a centre #-o #-o #-o . He isnt fast enough to create opportunities.

Better backline I reckon. Wags is too slow to be a centre, keep him at lock. Petersen is suspect in defence, and Burt should be there for his goalkicking when Riddell is off the field. Scores tries too. Ben Smith should be the starting centre, but it wouldn't suprise me to see John Williams there if they go for a youngster, I;ve heard good things about him and been impressed the few times I've seen him.

You still need a decent kicker though UTE, for when Riddell is off. Petersen scores tries sure, but he misses tackles and misreads the opposition attack on a regular basis. If he plays that would push most likely Burt to the centres (can't see him being left out), which is not his ideal position and he made some fundamental defensive errors there as well last season. Tim Smith may or may not play many games this year, if any, PJ and Morisson can kick goals but I'd hardly like to rely on them. Plus Burt is a better winger than Petersen anyway, it's his best position IMO, and Petersen is a left winger same as Grothe. He hadn't played as well on the right wing. I just think the best man for that right wing is Burt if Tahu is so insistent on playing centre.

Smith is more then capable, as is Marsh. Morris was apparenlty practicing as well.

Peterson improved by 100% from the beginning of the season. Grothe misses much more tackles but are covered by their centres.

Burt may have to play his way into the side this year which is something I would like to see more of this year.

Burt is no way better than Peterson. Burt is either my fullback or I wouldnt include him in my team. Wingers need to be able to adjust to both sides if they want to suceed. Vaeliki is a right winger but adjusted to the left to accomodate Lyon or was it the other way.

That's what they said about Mick Cronin

come to think of it Fittler, Meninga, Hill

A solid defensive centre Wagon with Peterson, and a Quick attacking centre Tahu with Grothe.
Looks pretty balanced to me.

Burt was just about top, if not actually top, of our try scorers list. He was top point scorer. Just on that basis alone I can't see how he can be left out of the side. He has done better on the right wing than Petersen in the past, I'd be willing to bet somewhere close to all of Sideshows tries have been on the left. I just think that Burt is a better option from what the two players have shown in previous years. Obviously I can't judge on pre-season training or anything, maybe Petersen will adapt, and Burt will become a good centre. But as far as their performances g4o thats they way I reckon it should be.
