An update for you South Sydney Rabbitohs - Official Page fans: talented hooker and last
season’s Toyota Cup captain Nathan Peats has told Big League there’s still no
news about being given a Top 25 contract with the club, and that he may have to
wait until after the Rabbitohs’ pre-season trials to know if he’ll be signed
up.

Peats began training with the first grade squad on Monday as
part of his ‘summer contract’ with the club, in which he is being
given the chance to convince the coaching staff to sign him on an NRL - National Rugby League contract.

Anyone know much about this guy?

Falloon or Peats?

Faloon did nothing wrong when we needed him last year.

Peats is young and has talent but I'm glad that the club doesn't throw contracts around willy nilly, he should have to earn his spot - if he's good enough he'll get there.

Peats is one of 33 players contracted to the club and he is signed up for 2011 and 2012.

Falloon has proved to be a great back up for Luke and Peats would do the same.

The problem is, three hookers, two of which are behind the best in the world.

You don't include Jason Clarke in that group?

To be honest I don't see a need for Souths to have three hookers

Beau Falloon has played in the backs in his junior days as well.
Might be a consideration to be used in a utility role.

I think Falloon will move on sooner rather than later. He's first grade quality but he simply won't get a look in with Luke there and considering he's an 80 minute player these days there's no reason for him to hang around except for injury.

Keep Peats because Falloon will go to another club looking to cement a first grade spot soonish.

Yeah I agree with you Zig. Falloon is probably my fave Souths player not getting a real gig but he has no real chance if Luke is gone. Would hate to see him in someone else's colours but he really should be playing first grade each weekend. Can't believe a team like Parramatta haven't had a go.

Exactly Hunters. That's why it puzzles me when people say the NRL doesn't have the depth to add more teams. There's Falloon and probably 20 more like him that deserve/are good enough to be playing first grade each week but can't get a gig. There's too many good players in the lower grades to not expand the game.
