Why do they even need someone to sing? Look at the old matches, they would just have the local military band play both athems, the crowd would sing and that would be it.

Probably be much safer way to do it, considering more often than not most people think the rendition they get is pretty crap.

What a non issue. In my opinion there cannot be a good rendition of our national anthem. I couldn't care less if one of you blokes got up to sing it. I don't see why an anthem has to be sung by the greatest singers in the world. My favourite anthem is Flower of Scotland, where just the players and the crowd sing it. Sounds far better and much more passionate.
