Adding AI and Zach is a really geniused idea for a team that had a tremendous young core.

Is Mike Conley even alive? I bet Portland is doing hand stands they didn't trade any of their young core to keep Oden and Conley together

Thats what kills me the most. They had two guys at their guard and swingman positon's in Mayo and Gay, who although they might have struggled a bit playing together at times, are very talented and was worth the gamble. I can't understate how highly i rate Mayo, i still remember the games i watched of him playing against the Lakers and i swear the kid didn't looked fazed one bit as he was matched up against Kobe. Imo in the times they played each other, Mayo held his own pretty well. Now the kid, who should be given EVERY chance to take the reigns of his own team, is going to have to accomodate for A.I. Don't get me wrong, i love A.I but he is a terrible fit for a team that already has good young talent at their guard position.

Not to mention the revelation that was the younger of the Gasol bro's. While he definitely won't be a superstar, he's a very nice efficient big man who can rebound very well. What ever chance Gasol had of evolving as an offensive player flew out the window the moment Randolph became his front-court partner. Ugh. Can't describe how disgusted i am with the way Memphis have worked this offseason.

The AI move was made to put bums on seats, but at 34 and coming off the season he's had, you have to question whether he can do that anymore. At least it's partially defensible, unlike the Randolph trade, which is totally indefensible. It doesn't make any sense no matter which way you look at it.

Also what are the odds that towards the end of the season Marc Gasol breaks down during a live NBA game, pulls out an uzi, and massacres everyone in the arena because he's hasn't gotten A SINGLE touch in the paint for the entire season.

The funny thing is that in all likely hood Memphis will win more games than last season (considering that they only won 24, its doesn't say much), purely because of the amount of talent they have accumulated. It just hurts to see them go in the direction they've gone in, when they could have potentially done so much more.

I would have loved to see them acquire a veteran at the PG position, someone in the Kidd or Nash class, a real leader who go out of their way to galvanize the team and instill a team-based philosophy, rather than go just go out and try to get their own. One of the main problems last year was that they didn't really have an identity, Mayo and Gay would just fight over the ball and do their own thing's while Gasol stood in the paint, probably swearing at them in Spanish.

In saying that i understand its pretty easy for me to just say what should have been done, when it would of been harder to put into practice as i doubt there were really any players of the Kidd class available.

Great to see a few NBA fans on this forum. I'm a huge fan of the NBA myself, my favourite team is the Phoenix Suns.

I don't know what to expect for the Grizzlies this season, they could either do very bad or decent. AI and Z-Bo on the same team...? I don't think it could work, there's also Mayo and Gay who should be the Grizzlies main options but with Z-Bo and AI one of them may be pushed out cause you know how both AI and Zach Randolph are, they always want their fair share of shots, well not fair share cause they take way more than fair.

With that many ballhogs on one team you know there's going to be a spectacular blowup at some stage this year. Should be an entertaining train wreck when it happens.

Warriors’ Jackson fined for trade request

Sep 15, 8:18 pm EDT

NEW YORK (AP)—Golden State’s Stephen Jackson(notes) has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for saying he wanted to be traded.
Jackson, who averaged a team-best 20.7 points per game last season, told Dime Magazine last month that he wanted out and had told the front office as much.

Players are not permitted to make trade requests publicly. Ron Artest(notes), then of the Indiana Pacers, was fined during the 2005-06 season for requesting a trade through the media.
Shortly after Jackson’s comments were made public, general manager Larry Riley said he still considered the swingman a key part of the team.
Only posting this because i had no idea that such a rule was in place. Was Kobe fined when he made his trade demands at the start of the 07-08 season?

Oh Delonte...

NBA star Delonte West arrested on weapons charges

Sep 18, 10:23 pm EDT

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP)—Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West(notes) was arrested Thursday after officers pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle while carrying two loaded handguns and a loaded shotgun in a guitar case.
Prince George’s County police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Reedy said Friday the Cleveland Cavaliers player was arrested about 10 p.m. Thursday.

Reedy said West was riding a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle north on the Capital Beltway in Upper Marlboro when he cut off an officer, who pulled him over.
Police said a handgun was found in his pocket, another in his pant leg and a shotgun in a guitar case strapped to his back.
Reedy said West “was very cooperative, there were no issues” during the incident.
The 26-year-old West, who lives in Brandywine, was charged with speeding and weapons counts. It is illegal to carry concealed weapons and to transport loaded guns in Maryland, according to police. Reedy said West was released on his own recognizance early Friday.
Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said the team was monitoring the situation.
“We have been in communication with Delonte and his family,” Ferry said in a statement. “We are gathering more information and will not have further comment until the appropriate time.”
Online court records did not list an attorney for West.
Last year, West left the Cavaliers’ training camp to seek treatment for depression and a “mood disorder” he said he has battled his entire life. At the time, he said he was taking medication and attending therapy sessions. West said his mood problems date to his childhood.
West has said his mood swings seem to be most erratic when his life seems to be in order.
Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said West was carrying a Beretta 9mm handgun, a Ruger .357 magnum handgun, and a Remington 870 shotgun. Copeland said the penalties West could face if convicted had not been determined.
