Report: Suh a problem in Lions locker room

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is a headache in the locker room, according to NFL Network analyst Heath Evans.

The former NFL fullback told radio station Detroit Sports 105.1 FM that three Lions players told him when he was working their games this season that Suh was difficult.

"The consistent message that came out of there is that Suh was uncontrollable and that he would constantly do things to kind of show his power over (former coach) Jim Schwartz, whether it was team meetings, showing up late, or whatever it may be," Evans said. "When you don't put players in line, I don't care how great they are."

Evans said Suh was a problem because he did whatever he wanted.

"The bottom line is he would just do things, whether it was showing up for a meeting late, or little different antics to kind of let the team know. ... it was more or less Suh just trying to show his dominance, his power," he said. "That he was basically untouchable and he could basically do what he wanted to do."

The Lions fired Schwartz at the end of the regular season and recently hired Jim Caldwell as head coach.

There have been reports that the Lions may try to lock Suh into a salary cap-friendly long-term deal. He is due to count $22.4 million against the cap this year.

Will Sunday be Suh's last Detroit home game?

http://www.detroitlions.com/news/li...ome-game/52f10420-bfe5-4c0a-ab9b-908022d4b5dc

It’s certainly a possibility for the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent, though the Lions front office remains confident they can sign Suh long term this offseason.
They believe that despite the fact that discussions between the team and Suh’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, were tabled in August because the two sides were a ways apart, and the Lions wanted the focus to shift to Suh’s performance on the field.
The Lions, of course, could still place the franchise tag on Suh (at a price of almost $27 million), which isn't as unreasonable as some might think.
Suh was asked Wednesday if Sunday’s game vs. Minnesota could be his last at Ford Field (barring the Lions host a playoff game). His response was consistent with what he’s said all year.
“I don’t think about things like that,” he said. “I think most important is that we have to go out there and get a win and then go from there.”
He was asked again a short time later if he expected Sunday to be his last game at Ford Field.
“Not a clue, it’s not my decision,” Suh said.
So then it begs the question, whose decision will it be?
“It’ll be Jimmy’s decision, so we’ll go with that. You can call Jimmy,” Suh said. “He probably will, yep.”
Suh has never been one to talk about his future, and maybe that response was a way of not having to talk about it on Wednesday, either. But it certainly doesn’t give Lions fans a warm fuzzing feeling inside about it being a lock that their All-Pro defensive tackle, a player they serenade with SUUUUUH every time he makes a play, will be back next year.
When a player says a decision is up to his agent, that normally translates to -- “Whoever pays me the most money is where I’ll be playing.”
Right or not, that’s the perception Suh gave Wednesday. And let’s be clear, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a player's right. Free agency doesn't come along often.
There will no doubt be plenty of suitors for one of the best defensive tackles in the league, too.
Fellow Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy signed a seven-year, $98 million deal with $51.5 million guaranteed in October.
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, the likely 2014 defensive player of the year, signed a six-year, $100 million deal with $51.8 million in guarantees. Signing Suh will likely take an equally expensive commitment.
From Suh’s comments on Wednesday, it appears obtaining his services will have a lot to do with which team opens its wallet the biggest.
That being said, Suh does like playing for Lions head coach Jim Caldwell. How much of a factor that will be in his decision -- or Sexton’s -- we’ll find out soon enough.
The last question asked of Suh on Wednesday was how much he’d miss Detroit if Sunday were his last home game.
“I’m not going to really answer that question,” he said. “It’s not something that I look forward to or having to deal with.”

I don't know much of Evans reporting history, but that report of Suh is pretty consistent with stories we've been hearing about him for a while. He sounds like a josh Dugan/Blake ferguson type that would lead young blokes astray and ruin the team for years.

He was a Raiders fan as a kid....

I'm hoping we sign him... We have the cap space...

If we can sign him... It opens us up to being able to draft Amari Cooper.

Assuming we pick high enough... We dropped to picking 5th after last week.. I think we're gonna need to be at 3 or 4 to get Cooper.

Could you guys explain to me how the Franchise Tag works?

Reading about it, but I'm still having trouble understanding it.

Basically, it allows you to keep the rights to the player for 12 months, but you have to pay him the average wage of the top 5 players at his position (Suh i believe is THE highest paid player at his position, so the money wont worry the lions)

The idea is that it's supposed to allow teams to keep players rights and give themselves an extra bit of time to work out a long term deal

Also, i cant see Suh going to Oakland. Everything i've read has suggested he and his manager are DEAD keen on getting into a big market to help grow his brand. He'll end up at one of the NY franchises imo. Probably the jets.

From a football standard point of view I don't see any difference between the Raiders and Jets. But from a marketing point of view I ubnderstand where you are coming from with NY over Oakland.

LA is a big market...... ;-)

Your dead right though.... That's what I've read too....

He IS a guy we should be targeting though... He takes eyes off Khalil Mack almost immediately.

And as I said above.... Allows us to draft that weapon that Carr sorely needs.

$27M.... That's a massive franchise tag...

Am I correct in thinking that JJ Watt's new record breaking deal would have just upped the franchise tag for DE's??

Suh would be a DT, not a DE. Which is a significant difference
But yeah, having just looked into it in detail, it's going to cost them 27 mil for the franchise tag, and there is no f**king way the Lions are giving him that.

So he's hitting the free agent market, I have no doubt Oakland will come in heavy, as you say, him and Mack would form a really formidable duo when trying to build a young dominate D. Add in Sio Moore who can really play. But i think Suh is really about the market he's in, NYJs have as much money as Oakland but are in a market that appeals to him, and the Giants have a glaring need at DT.

Also dont rule out the Cowboys and Bears, both good markets, with the ability to make room for him and a dire need.
Oakland is up against it IMO.

Unless of course he's being recruited to the LA Raiders, then it's game f**king on for the Raiders

He would be great with the Jets... With him and Sheldon Richardson on that D-Line...

Dallas would be great too... Just cap issues I think...

How about Houston.. A good Market... JJ Watt & Clowney on each end... With Suh somewhere in between... A QB might be a little higher on the priority list...

I've always liked the thought of him being a Raider... Apparently he was a fan when he was a kid... And he has that mean and nastiness about him that's almost old school Raider... That Jack Tatum or Howie Long type of guy...

If he's moving to Texas, it's going to be for the star on the helmet... but Houston is interesting... Suh, Watt and Clowney
could be money

Clowney will be a massive bust. His knee injury will limit his impact and I doubt he lasts longer than his rookie contract.

they are saying he needs microfracture surgery on his knee. that was a death knell for players in past years. not sure how meducal science has advanced from those days but it doesn't look good for him.
