Nearly every try scored these days goes up stairs

Anyone else notice that pretty much nearly every try scored in the NRL these days gets send upstairs to get checked, the refs make the call on if they they think its a try or no try but know their jobs are on the line if they make a big stuff up and even when it looks like a try for sure they still send it up stairs still. Its like they don't believe in their own judgement calls.

Also I noticed sometimes the ref is pretty much about to blow for a try but then players around him pressure him in to checking it up stairs first.

I just think rugby league is becoming way to reliant on modern technology these days, I miss the days when the ref could not go up stairs and had to make a call on the spot.

presumably you were also delighted in the past when the wrong ruling on a try cost your club a result.

do yourself a favour; log-off & headbutt a bus.

The thing that anoys me is when they go up stairs and the onfield ref says he thinks its a try or no try the video ref takes that into consideration when making his decisions

Gee I love it when a poster quotes Phil Gould verbatim and passes it off as his opinion.

The notion of 'conclusive evidence' has been thrown out the window.

Daniel Anderson made the change for refs to make their own judgements about tries, with video refs only being able to change these decisions based on this premise.

But it did not last long. The men in the box are clearly making their calls based on things they are not seeing.

Is it any wonder the on field ref feels undermined. All our problems stem from decisions made in the video ref box. If we allow on field refs freedom to make calls and end the insufferable amount of replays this situation may change.

As opposed to the new system where it goes upstairs for 10 views and they STILL get it wrong??

Yes, yes much better....

even more hilarious when the on-field ref gets it wrong & the same whingers hammer them for not sending it up stairs with the old "if the technology's there use it" routine.

how many video ref try stuff-ups are there in comparison to onfield ref try stuff-ups?

so true, on field stuff ups happen a million times more.

Foran knock on vs cowboys

7 tackle try

nofoaluma's 'try' last week vs. manly

It's got to the point where I watch every game on 10min delay just so i can fast forward whenever a try is scored. It kills the moment of the game and the excitement of scoring. Yet another problem with fricking with the games fabric and creating a poorer spectacle. It's got to the point where refs are frightened to make a decision even if they are on the spot, players lay down or refuse to take drop outs, form scrums etc till video has taken a look in the hope of reversing a decision or drawing a penalty.

And they want to bring in capt's call to add even more stoppages and influence by the video ref!

Anyone at, or watching the Roosters v Penrith Toyota Cup game on Fox sports, would have loved the Video Referee in that game. They used it at last 3 times for Captain's Challenges and fair dinkum for at least 2 of the decisions they looked at the incident 8-9 times  Everyone at the ground could tell what the decision was after 3 looks, but not the boys in the box, they kept looking at it again, and again, and again. Took blasted forever.

Silliest use was a Captain's Challenge by Penrith used in the last 30 seconds of the 2nd half with the Roosters leading by 14

Sorry, but I don't care enough to have the stats for you. Feel free to gather them if you like.

My point is, the video ref stuffs it up too. They don't get the obstruction rule right, they get groundings wrong, knock ons etc.

Someone used the Foran knock on against the Cowboys as an example of on-field refs getting it wrong - it was the video ref that stuffed it!!!!! It was replay after replay and still wrong.

Not only do they get it wrong, but it completely stifles the flow of the game. Its getting so stop/start I feel like I'm watching yawnion sometimes.

People should not whinge that a ref makes a call and decides, then in the same breath whinge that they are sick of seeing stuff go upstairs.

I for one am happy to let the bloke on the field decide. Who knows, it may even make those dickhead touchies pay attention to the game rather than do nothing and wait for the video ref to sort it......

f**k the video ref off and limit the replays shown on tv. Nothing worse the listening to the commentators after watching 700 slow mo replays talk about how bad the decision was.
