Neill Agrees Hammers deal

Lucas Neill has spurned interest from Liverpool and agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with Premiership strugglers West Ham.
Liverpool was widely thought to have been the wantaway Blackburn defender's destination, but on Wednesday night he agreed terms on a lucrative contract with The Hammers.
Alan Curbishley is desperate to strengthen his team for their fight against relegation and has offered attractive terms to Neill, though The Hammers are reported still to be negotiating with Rovers.
"Lucas has agreed terms on a two-and-a-half year deal with West Ham and is looking forward to the challenge ahead," Neill's agent Peter Harrison is quoted in The Times.
Neill's decision to choose The Hammers over Liverpool will exasperate Reds boss Rafa Benitez who hinted for the first time on Wednesday that a deal for Neill had hit a stumbling block.

Wasnt his whole reason for for getting out of Blackburn to move to a bigger more successful club eg a Liverpool, Barca etc??????? A move to the Premiership strugglers makes it appear that it was only ever about who would pay the most $$$$ :(

also reported that Liverpool had reached an agreement with Blackburn for Neill - contract offer was the stumbling block.

and West Ham have not reached a deal with Blackburn yet to get Neill in this transfer period.

Stupid and Idiotic... even if there is a get-out clause he will have played for 3 clubs in a space of a year and its never good for a player to come out of a relegated club.

Well im dissapointed on two fronts.

Firstly i thought he would of been perfect for Chelsea. To give us immediate cover in the centre of defence, and to provide a long term option at right back. Chelsea do not have a recognised right back for over a season and Lucus would of been great.

Secondly, why the hell is he going to West Ham? It looks like only a miricle will save them. Is this furthering his career? I thought this was his most important contract? This is all very strange.

Can't blame him for going for the money.

Hopefully though they've told him he'll play in the centre of defence though.

The other thing, Hammers will go down, so he'll leave anyway at the end of the season, and should go for a champions league side....he is good enough for it.

Couple of good signings coming in, am starting to become confident they can avoid going down. There are a few other sides around them playing equally as bad and still a bunch of games to come...

Happy with Neil and Davenport signings providing they both fully eventuate...

Fox Sports reported this morning (on TV) that the Hammers offer is DOUBLE what Liverpool was offering, and he has te benefit of an escape clause. However the big drama could be Blackburn accepting it. At least Liverpool was offering a replacement for Neil as part of the deal. Blackburn wont release him to West Ham without signing someone to replace him. It might not happen...

Yeah, cant really blame him, I mean, it's not just a chance to set himself up for life....but his kids for life as well.....

Should really have had the deal done with blackburn first.

well they are very active in the transfer market at the moment. obviously trying to strengthen the squad to prevent relegation. also have a fair bit of money about at the moment from a takeover, so hopefully it will pan out for him.

Disappointing.

I love the bloke, but I can't help but lose an inch of respect for him. I would have thought being a footballer and all, playing in the Champions League with Liverpool would be worth the $20K a week less.

FFS it's near impossible to go from a relegation club to a top club, it doesnt look very good on your resume.
