New Assistant Coach - Todays Leader

Former Western Suburbs and St.Scum player Peter Gentle has been appointed Cronulla's assistant 1st Grade coach to Stuart Raper, and Premier League coach. Former Sharks player Alan Wilson is his assistant and new development officer.

The Leader also runs through their training routine, mentions they're using the gym at the club now (Do they still use Waratah as a base ?) and how they're using out-rigger canoes every Thursday as part of their training, racing from Darook Park to Jibbon Point and back. (6-7km), (sounds like a good perve for the ladies)

Simon Gilles says..."Mick (Rosso) has been among our best trainers, along with Nutley and yougsters like Daniel Dumas, Cameron Ciraldo, Kris Piper and Jon Green." Gilles names first graders Dean Bosnich, Paul Franze and Matt Reick as the most improved trainers. Jason Stevens who's been riding a bike for up to 5 hours a day recovering from a leg injury.

Good to see Franze is training well, anyone know anything about Piper & Green ? I don't recall the names.

I'm pretty sure that Green is a young prop from the Junios but don't know about Piper

Not familiar with Kris Piper, but I have heard Jon Green's name mentioned a few times this year although I can't say I know too much about him either.

I think he is a Lock or Second rower and played Flegg for us this year.

The new development officer is CRAIG Wilson, not Alan. He's played 1st Grade for the Bears, Crushers and Steelers.

One of the articles states the club has sold $300,000.00 worth of season tickets in the last fortnight. They announced the fifth straight sponorship with Toyota and also have plans for coporate boxes at the southern end and extend seat covering in the burns stand. They are looking for a sleeve sponsor. All in all the spin is supreme optimisim in the story. Lets see!

I was under the impression that the IMB extended their deal as sleeve sponsor for a further 3 years. :doubt:

I thought the LG deal was extended last year aswell.

I might be wrong though.

Green is a prop from Perth in the mould of a Robbie Kearns. He captained Flegg last year. I don't think he'll be ready this year but is a definate first grade prospect down the track.

Kris Pyper spent most of last year injured, but was another who caught my eye in our championship winning Matthews Cup team of 2001. He's a back rower with great ball skills. Again 2004 wont be his year to crack first grade but he's another for the future.

Anyway I am glad they are both training full time.

Another interesting snippet from the Leader. Players rested from full training due to various injuries, I guess of varying degrees of severity.

Bailey - Foot operation
Bickerstaff- groin
Hilder - groin
Simmons - shoulder
Pyper - shoulder
Aitken - hamstring
Kimmorley - rested

I hope Bird is training hard - I heard he is a bit lazy.

Yeah I saw noddy this evening at Macca's Cronulla - sounds geared up for a big 04 season.

Green & Piper your year is 2004, no more holding back players, its full steam ahead, the comp must be won in 2004, no more they will be ready in another year, its now or never, remember Anasta played for Australia in his first year of first grade, these guys and everyone in the club must step up Greg Bird you have had enough wraps now its time to stake your claim, prove everyone wrong, go from fringe first grader to star
