Liz Ellis Named Captain 08/02/2004
Liz Ellis was today named Captain of the Australian Netball Team during a Netball Australia announcement at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
Vice-Captain since 2000, Liz is looking forward to filling the role vacated by Kathryn Harby-Williams who retired from both international and domestic netball last year.
An emotional Liz said today, I am just so excited and overwhelmed, it is an honour to Captain such a great team.
Asked what her plans as Captain for 2003 were, Liz said, Firstly we need to focus on our March tour to South Africa and England and with a few new members to the team, we need ensure the harmonious and supportive team environment is maintained.
Liz will lead the Australian Team for the next twelve months.
Sharelle McMahon, the 2003 Australian Player of the Year and 2003 Commonwealth Bank Trophy Most Valued Player, has been selected as Vice-Captain.
Also announced today were the 14 players who will tour South Africa and England in March.
