Board and members of Camperdown Bowling and Recreation Club are the white knights who have made an offer to the administrators PKF which has been accepted.
Camperdown has paid a $20,000 deposit and also reached agreement with the major creditor the Commonwealth Bank.
A creditors meeting is to be called on March 18 to reach final agreement by all creditors which is most likely to be approved.
Camperdown Club president Steve Byrnes and directors want to co-operate fully with the local community and Ryde Bowling Club members in an amalgamated organisation to the benefit of all.
Camperdown Club director Paul Shiel is a former Ryde boy and is a prime mover in saving the Ryde Club.
Hopes for the future
His father Peter Shiel owned the BP service station on what was the former Ryde Council Chambers and Town Hall site on the corner of Blaxland Road and Tucker Street.
Paul met with the Ryde Bowling Club patron and former Ryde Mayor and current Councillor Ivan Petch to discuss the possible redemption of the Club.
Meetings were held by a small committee headed by Clr Petch including several Ryde Club members and The Weekly Times editor John F Booth.
More details next week. Meanwhile a big Thank-You to the President, board and members of Camperdown Bowling and Recreation Club for their courageous and bold move in coming to the rescue of Ryde City Bowling Club.
