New club websites?

The Broncos have unveiled a new slick looking website. Previously all clubs had the same layout would we expect all clubs to be switching to this new layout? So far only the Broncos have the new layout.

The NRL bar at the bottom of the page is a good inclusion.

Looks good

Knights is just one big mess. Their stat leaders needs updating big time, theres no coaching staff profiles, no NYC profiles, no injury updates. 2 days before kick off I thought they'd fix it by now, hopefully they look at what Broncos have done and do the same

Except for Souths. Always wondered why theirs is different.

Warriors and Rabbitohs didn't want to move across to the Bigpond made/run sites so they kept their own and the NRL made secondary sites for them.

Warriors.co.nz now redirects to the NRL's Warriors website too. Wonder why.

i remember reading an article (which i am unable to find) saying that the NRL gave an option to the clubs to use their web designer and hosting(bigpond i think) as it was going to be a cost saving to clubs. Which meant the sites were going to have a similar look to them.

Some clubs took that advantage of that others decided to go their own way. (souths are one i can think of)

Explains why I recently saw a page on Souths site not updated since 2010

Sportal is contracted out as I understand for those sites - 15 of the 16 clubs now use them.

They're all due for a refresh and should all look like the Broncos' one within the coming weeks.

Would've been ideal to have them all rolled out prior to season kickoff but them's the breaks I guess.

Looks much better.

That's not quite how it transpired. Clubs were coerced into joining what was dubbed the "Club Network" - a universal approach to taking the costs out of clubs maintaining their own website but with the bonus of gaining revenue through network wide sponsorship. It also enabled some clubs to step their game up knowing there were minimum standards they needed to achieve.

Telstra/Bigpond wrote a cheque to distribute amongst the clubs and if certain milestones were achieved more money would be forth coming. Initially it sits outside of the existing deal but will fall into the next digital media rights deal which is hoped to add more value and thus more revenue for a game wide approach to the commercialisation of web and digital media.

As mentioned, 2 clubs didn't take part - Warriors because of a contractual agreement with Vodafone and Souths because of various companies Peter Holmes-a-Court had interests in doing the work on the Souths website and digital media.

I remember Eastgate Multimedia created the Bulldogs one in 07 - and that thing was awesome. It had so much flash objects that loaded fairly quickly. The site was impressive. Going to the static junk that all clubs went to was disappointing downgrade.

The new design and layout is a huge improvement on what was previously nothing short of embarrassing.

The stupid Bigpond pop up on the Dragons one shits me to tears - enough that I try to avoid using the club site unless I have too..

That site was fantastic. I rarely even bother going to the site now.

The NRL template one for Penrith was an improvement on what was there previously... content wise it was OK, it just looked like it was about 10 years out of date.

I love the new look though. I imagine the roll out for other clubs will be throughout the week.

It'll take time for each club I imagine. Hopefully most clubs will be updated by Round 5

All 16 clubs are now on the network with Souths making the switch this morning.

In terms of old design to new, so far the new site is up for:

Brisbane
Canterbury
Gold Coast
Manly
Melbourne
Newcastle
Cowboys
Parramatta
Dragons
Souths
Roosters

Still to be upgraded:
Canberra
Cronulla
Penrith
Warriors
Tigers

And I imagine NSWRL and QRL are getting an upgrade too... they're still on the old format.

Parramatta don't even have the correct logo on the new site FMD!

The middle of the logo should be white not see through, I've noticed this on channel 9 as well. Amateur hour out Parra way again (yes I'm blaming them as I bet they supplied the logo at some point) :(
