New Coach

Honestly I personally don't believe coaching effectively can't be that hard. There are 16 teams in the NRL. If the NSW education system can have hundreds of top teachers, the NRL can have atleast 16 great coaches.

You see, teaching is meant to be leaner-focussed. That means centred around the talents and needs of the learner.

By the language Mary uses, he thinks the players are there to carry out what he has orchestrated. FAIL! That's not what effective coaching or teaching is about.

The Club needs to get cracking in the search for a new Coach as the Titans are about to show HENRY the door as soon as this week....
Henry is going to get himself an unfair reputation as a shit coach.

Neil Henry was as much responsible for the Cowboys 2015 premiership as Paul Green was. He was monumental in building their roster and getting them into a competitive position after they were a shambles of a club, and then Green swooped in and took them to glory.

And it's a similar situation at the Titans. Remember the start of last year, the Titans are in turmoil, there are threats of going under, and cocaine scandals rocking the club. Despite this he took the spoon favourites charging to the finals. He built a great team who were gelling very well together. Then people higher up from him forced him to take Hayne, who Henry did not want. And now the entire team balance has been upset, as well as the cap, and Henry is going to cop the blame.

I would take Neil Henry as our coach over Mary any day.

As would I..Titans were building nicely then f**ked up paying massive dollars for Hayne..

Thats the attitude the club has and its a bullshit one.

If the players buy into that sort of shit no wonder they play like they don't give a stuff and are happy to get a pay cheque they haven't rightfully earned.

Has the club become the new Illawarra steelers happy to just be in the comp.

Fans have a right to expect more from a once proud club now they look like a bunch of losers who don't care.
The worse of both cultures merged and we lost the best of both - saints had pride, records, brand, deep followers and guts pre merger. Steelers, well they had juniors.

Now saints have nothing but dinosaurs trying to keep their jobs and steelers erh well erh well erh......heck they gave us the mighty Mary mcG

So sad.

We often hear the expression, "Mary bleeds red and white!" If that is genuinely the case he should be convinced it is in the club's best interest that he step down. The Dragons' propaganda machine could present Mary as a martyr to the greater cause of future Dragon success. In which case he could just be given a deal that helps him return to his painting role for which he is better qualified. In other words not receive a full payout of the 2 year contract, but something smaller in compensation. If the money is an issue for the club then why couldn't the club choose between Hornby and Young as assistants and Mary's payout be based on the one salary saved?

There is no way McGregor will step down on his own. I doubt whether he thinks he is responsible for our fall.
Judging by his post match interviews he has his go to list for us getting beaten.
Is it possible that there is unrest with the players and McIdiot.

The Illawarra steelers players had pride but never had any real backing from the board.

Rarely did they lose to many of their better juniors to rival clubs.

I have seen more juniors leave the area since the merger became and the stories I heard for the reasons why vary but alot didn't have alot of kind words towards the likes of Mary, Young sr and co.

Watching steve chinless price running the water bottles for the sharks the other night and I thought to myself this is the idiot doust replaced Wayne Bennett with
Running water for the sharks you would of thought he would of learnt something from this terrible decision yet he didn't he replaced chinles with a bigger idiot 6 yrs of pain and misery post Wayne Bennett era mcbold head wouldn't get a coaching job any where else he is pure clueless and gutless to make change or take risk he wil only make a change to his preferred line up if it's forced apon him by injury he is a terrible investment must be sent to Cronulla to help his old mate out chinless carrying the water bottles

i have been following the dragons since 1975.
And the last two weeks have utterly gutted me.
Ie the last straw.
We certainly have some top NRL players . Fritz , JDB , Vaughan etc
Solid players , Leeson , Simms , Thompson etc
Goalkeeper , special player Gareth
Great up and coming players Mann, Host Duffy etc
I am sure with the right coach we would of won both of these games ( and a couple of more ).
Win these games and we are definitely top 8 and probably top 4.
The NRL is so close, and a top class coach is paramount to success.
Look at our success under Bath, Bennett and even Smith and Waite. Even Browny.
Then look at our lack of success under Young , Price and McGregor.
The Board needs to take some accountability and employ a top coach , first and foremost.
Until that happens , myself and all the dragons supporters will ride a roller coaster which will often dissapoint us..

I love you my Dragons , but as they say , if nothing changes then nothing changes.

Gutted , just gutted , but having said that , I will be cheering and watching the next Dragons game.
with the right coach, we beat dogs, parra, titans, raiders, titans, knights, souths, simple

Would be very interesting to see the terms of McGregor's contract.
Surely there are performance clauses and options in favour of the club.
If the contract is iron clad 100% termination payout then the do dos who negotiated it should be fired.
I would be amazed if there was not some sort of cheaper exit for the club.
Depending on the results of the last 4 games, it will be fascinating to see if anyone from Doust down has the balls to actually jettison the current coach and make a real change.
If we finish badly and we still have McGregor next year then we are nothing more than a laughing stock.
The same way players have to earn their spots and their jerseys on game day, the same should apply to the coach.
Let's see what transpires...

How long is it going to take our useless Board to realise they have backed the wrong horse for 7years. The Price/Mary era has seen the club remain in the abyss of mediocrity with no real plan. Plenty bag him, but I absolutely admire what Nathan Brown is trying to do & totally rebuild the Knights club from the absolute bottom. They are a team that will be on the rise and they have a plan with a smart coach that develops and improves players. Our idiots in charge just improve their bank balances and cover their arses.
Go Brownie and watch the Knights excite their legion of fans with exciting attacking footy in the next 2 years. Dragons by then will be in a 9 year non rebuild phase.

Coffs I have changed my mind about Mary ... The guys a genius , how can you have his coaching record , and then get another 2 year extension . What a GENIUS he fools Doust and the board for a bout 7 games a year then gets re signed ....

Just look at McGregor's CV
Strength and conditioning coach since 2002
Bennett dumped him as soon as he arrived in 2009 - wonder why?
He then went and coached The Western Suburbs Red Devils in the Illawarra comp.
Then he coached the Cutters 2012 and 2013
In 2012 the Cutters finished 6th and were knocked out in the first elimination final.
In 2013 the Cutters finished 9th and didn't even participate in the finals.

Can someone please explain to me how these credentials were used to elevate McGregor to FG coach let alone extend his tenure???
Then compare that to Browny's CV and extensive NRL and ESL experience and results.

I believe we had plenty of options - really good options such as Brown but also Cleary (we managed to scare him off) and JD of course whose credentials look stellar compared to McGregor's.

Why and how was this appointment made?
I have heard that internally they rate McGregor as a "career coach". Based on what exactly - a hunch?
Not good enough for a club like ours. Get rid of the internal politics and factions and get some independent management in place to get the place firing.
I echo your sentiments about Brown - he has done a phenomenal job in the face of adversity.
Absolutely smart and knowledgeable coach that could have done wonders at St. George.

It's ironic that of the three St.George old boys now coaching FG, we end up with the dud.
Apologies for the rant on your post.

1) Neil Henry would be tremendous if he is sacked by the Titans.

2) Would love to see Nathan Brown coach the team in 5 years after leading Newcastle to a premiership

3) Bennett or Bellyache represent a dream
