Exciting news for all of the Muse fans out there...

Muse have revealed the name of their new album today (May 22) through their Twitter page.

This morning the band announced that their fifth record will be titled 'The Resistance' via their page on the social networking site.

The band have been working on the follow-up to 2006's 'Black Holes and Revelations' for the past year in Milan and Lake Como in Italy. The album is being produced by the band and mixed by Mark 'Spike' Stent (Oasis, Depeche Mode).

Frontman Matt Bellamy had previously revealed that an orchestra had been recruited http://www.nme.com/news/muse/43149to play on the album, which he decribed as "symphonic".

'The Resistance' is expected to be released in September.

* BUMP *

It comes out 14 September.

From the 2 songs I have already heard, Uprising and United States of Eurasia, sounds like another classic!

Hopefully this is followed up by another tour. :)

United States of Eurasia is the biggest load of garbage they have produced. It is awful - and they have produced a fair bit of bad stuff in the past.

Uprising isn't bad though...

I used to be really into Muse for some time. I saw them at the Hordern in 2004 and they are really a spectacular live band. For some reason my enthusiasm towards them since then has flattened a little bit. Im f**king jealous of the black midi manson Mathew Bellamy uses though.

I have heard the entire album, if you like muse, then you should like it.

I actually like black holes and revelations as their best album leading into listening to this one.

I will point out that is is a little different in respect that it sounds like they were perhaps experimenting a little, the album is very musical and the orchestra is very prominent, as a bit of a muso, i love it but it is at the expense of a bit of "rock"!

Not to they there aren't parts where he's rocking out and shredding the guitar solo's but it kinda feels like he's pumping and pumping the rock out but never lets it off! Although there are some good moments the remind me of Queen and hendrix and others.

That said it still think it is a great album, with the last three songs, the exogenesis symphony pieces a great listen if you appreciate music!

Listened to the album tonight and really liked it.

I like all of muses stuff and have seen them live several times. Just such a great live band and Bellamy is one of the few genuinely talented rockers out there.

Seeing them live again on my honeymoon in October. They are the warm up band for U2's 360 Tour, which I am attending in Dallas :D

I'm a bit up and down about the album. Might hear a few of the tracks again.
The girlfriend is buying the whole discography on vinyl, Origins Of Symmetry and Absolution are on their way.

I'm a fan of tracks 5-8

Good man.

I've only listened to the first eight tracks, but the first four seemed very cookie cutter to me, limited to the conventions of modern rock music. While the latter four just seemed awesome.

Yeah i kinda agree, track 5 guiding light is a great song!!!
very starlight or invincible-esque from black holes but still the goods.

but the whole album has grown on me after a couple of listens.

Great album. They lost me a bit with Black Holes and Revelations but this one is up there with Absolution and Origin.

The first single is pretty weak in my opinion. Highlights for me: United States of Eurasia, Guiding Light and I belong to You.

The guitar solo halfway through Guiding Light just hits the spot so damn well.

Have not stopped listening to this cd since buying it. Probably already listened to it more than I have Black Holes.

A+

Wow, I am really on the other end of the spectrum. Black Holes is probably my favourite Muse album and "United states of eurasia" and "Guiding Light" are 2 tracks I hate most off the new album.
