New Rules being introduced into domestic club rugby next session

Did anyone see One news last night ? The new rules are bing introduced into domestic club rugby of next session (Missed the start of the article so not confident on timing but it is soon). The major rule changes are.

• Hands are allow in the ruck (Looked like a free for all)
• At scrum time both back-lines must be 5 meters behind their own scrum.
• More free kicks than penalties.
• Any number are allow into the line-outs you don't have to buddy up any more.

Aus and SA rugby are already using the rules at some level.

I cant wait to see a game in action with the rules. Fro what I have heard and read the games are a lot lot faster, less down time.

I do like the majority of the new rules, having seen them in action in round 1 of the ARC.

I still have my doubts about the ruck though... it's going to take a major toll on halfbacks IMO, as it seems quite often they themselves have to reef the ball out of the clutches of about 3 or 4 players on the ground... and it's an absolute mess.

The other one I'm not so sure about is that any time a ball becomes unplayable in a ruck, the defending team receive a short arm penalty.

Regardless, it looks like they're here to stay, and for the most part that's a good thing. I actually think the rule that will open things up the most is the one where you can no longer pass back to someone in their own 22 for a kick out on the full... it really does open things up tremendously. Look for most kickers to aim their downfield kicks to pull up just outside the 22 in the future.

I would like to see a rule where you cant dot down behind your own lines for a 22 drop out. It should be like league in that you have to run it from behind your lines else its a 5 meter scrum or you kick it away from behind your lines.

You see to many teams on the defense doting the ball down for an easy 22 drop out.

You are aware they're called rucks in rugby, aren't you? Also, that link you provided states that the sport has hands-only mauls, and that they are being copied. This is not strictly true. Whilst hands are permitted in the rucks, so are feet.

And even if they have borrowed parts of the game, so what? What difference does it make?

the positive thing is that it will reduce the number of penalties, hence the amount of stoppages
