THE new Gold Coast NRL franchise expanded its fledgling player roster to six today with the addition of Parramatta utility Luke O'Dwyer.
O'Dwyer signed a two-year deal with the club that will become the competition's 16th team in 2007. He will remain with the Eels next season.
O'Dwyer, 22, said it had always been a dream of his to return to the area where he starred as a junior.
"I remember growing up in the Tweed and my mates and I used to go to the Seagulls games and watch our idols play like Wally Lewis and others," he said.
"For the juniors to be able to see first hand where they can end up will be a really good thing for Rugby League on the Coast."
O'Dwyer, captain of Parramatta's premier league outfit, has played 13 first grade games since making his debut against Brisbane in round two, last season.
Inaugural Gold Coast coach John Cartwright said O'Dwyer would be a key signing for the new club because of his versatility.
"He covers any position in the halves and back row and, at a pinch, hooker," Cartwright said.
"He's the type of player every side needs because of his utility factor.
"When your team has injuries Luke will give you options because he can slot into just about any of those positions."
