I don't trust the NRL at all never have.
Imagine the conditions up there early in season.
Knowing our luck we will get them round 1 and they will make us play them up there.
Instead of playing us away round 1, like the nswrl did to us when we came in we played away round 1

From an NRL point of view, there isn’t much to lose. Albo kicks in for 600 mill, opens up more sponsors, players, broadcasting, international cred. If it goes tits up the nrl really hasn’t lost much, they go back to their established model. It’ll be the government who wears the flak for wasting money.

But there is plenty that can and likely will go wrong. It is a f**ken hot, dangerous and corrupt place. Players and families will need to be essentially locked up in a guilded cage and the only question is how much of the $600 mill will be robbed.

The nrl obviously need to bribe players to go there and we don’t know if the incentives strike the right balance yet.

My opinion is I never liked the idea, especially when we have WA / NZ and QLD still ripe for expansion. My prediction is there’ll be a bunch of people that will take the offer for quick cash early and it’ll look good for a couple of years, then we’ll get a story how $100mill has simply ‘disappeared’ and gov funding will be pulled. It’s not like the libs are trumpeting this, it’s a albo show. Then the shit will hit the fan.

the thing to lose would be face, but not money.

i dont think the families will be going mate. the aussie players will go to the compound.
nobody would actually, do it? surely?! they might shift to cairns but this is essentially the FIFO team.

They are pushing the players to live there, and they’ll need to to get the tax break.

plenty of players without families, and plenty with babies or toddlers and they could convince themselves they can set themselves up if they park their asses by a pool for a couple of years. Will likely be a bunch of oldies too who do a 2-3 year stint and leave their families in Aus. There’s plenty of people who do that in other jobs.

The tax incentives and living in a compound where you essentially aren’t paying for anything, players and staff can earn double ehat they would in Aus

Of course they will need to get their academies and pathways for both male and female players up and running pretty quickly including school comps - Potential players need to attend school on a regular basis to be eligible for selection as well.

yes - if your paid 500k plus a season for 3 years tax free to play in PNG you will have enough to purchase a property back in AUS especially when everything else will be provided free of charge including flights.

Yeah not sure about rec flights, but likely a few will be included. they’ll be bouncing back to Sydney every few weeks anyway. What they save in accom and tax will dwarf any costs anyway.
