It seems that there will be a "second grade", but the majority of these games will not be played in conjunction with NRL & U/20 fixtures. It looks like being called the NSW Cup, or similar.
There will be no Jersey Flegg, though the S.G.Ball and Harold Matthews will continue at the age levels they currently operate with. These competitions may also become "National" competitions in the near future. :)

They play for Raiders.

i kid, i kid.

i see the white writing but still it makes no sense
they cant play for the raiders... or any club for that matter, it really doesnt leave a bloke like Ben Jones alot of options
good player, but full strength canberra's back row will include Learoyd Lahrs, Costigan, Bickerstaff, Tongue... with Picker coming through also... where is he to play next year?

There will still be an open age State-based competition either identical to Premier League or with an exciting new name... People are just getting overly excited at the idea of this u20s competition being the '2nd tier'... It's a national Jersey Flegg, really.

from what i understand some clubs including canberra and the dragons will not be fielding teams in the open age state based comp, which is also rather silly imo

personally i dont see why they dont just make subtle changes to the PL comp and make it national and televised.

I still say this comp should be aligned with a draft system, similar to the college system in the USA. These u/20 teams should be independent of the NRL teams. Bottom ranked teams would recieve the first, first round pick and so forth

It would be cool if the games were televised even just on Fox or ESPN.

Surely they'll have a team for their open age players to play in... Even if it's 'outsourced' (i.e. Roosters/Newtown, Souths/Norths, Melbourne/Norths Brisvegas). Possibly even an alliance with a JBC club as well.

Jim Beam and the local comp looks to the be way Canberra will go, but neither are PL standard, i wouldnt feel at all confident of plucking blokes from canberra's local comp or the JBC and expecting them to play NRL Footy, spose we'll only have ourselves to blame for that, but still i dont see why this nationalised thing is being done with u/20's rather then PL

So, as Legend asked earlier, where will you up n coming but over 20's players that arent ready for firsts, or the player coming back thru injury/ form slump....where will they play?

A lot of kids will get a taste of the limelight in the 20's, playing before the NRL at Suncorp, telstra , Aussie in front of big crowds, these games will also be live or delayed on FOX, I beleive clubs will focus more on this than the national (current PL comp) which i fear will get pushed into the background.....kids that dont make the jump from 20's to first grade will be taking a big step down going to PL//National, whicjh will be played where? Where current PL is in front of 2-300.
Its an irregular progression imo..... harold matts,SG ball, NATIONAL U20's TOYATA CUP, the old PL, NRL.

yeah i agree - bizarre stuff. it'd be like getting a kick in the teeth going from the u20's comp to PL.

I think PL might remain but some teams might not field a team but opt to form an alliance with a jim beam cup team to send their players.

Yes, I suspect we'll see a lot more 'out-sourcing' of PL tier teams.

In terms of JBC - it's not at the same standard as PL (which is, after all, the 3rd or 4th best RL competition in the world). Unless the standard of JBC lifts significantly I don't see NRL clubs using JBC clubs as the main destination for their non-core squad players. For example, at the moment Parramatta has both a PL team as well as an arrangement with JBC club Seven Hills Demons.

In NSW Premier League will remain although it is likely that the name will change. Jersey Flegg will be gone. Jim Beam Cup will remain in the current format. SG Ball and Harold Matthews will remain.

Many clubs are still likely to promote their best Under-20s players to Premier League.

Wont seem like a promotion to an 18 or 19 year old.
Yes it is a bit weird in some ways. But Premier League will still be the stronger competition and young players will still want to be in Premier League.
