Hearing about this makes me want to go back and rewatch the original series all I've again, much like I am currently watching Heroes after hearing about the Heroes Reborn series.

The lady and I have been watching from season 1 and are now almost at the end of season 5 (at which stage we have the first film). The show has been on the money from the get go with no lapses at all (despite a few ridiculous episodes such as a toilet monster). Watching it through, it's amazing to see how many shows and ideas spawned from it. At first i was a bit hesitant thinking that having watched it originally in the mid 90's it might come off as a bit cheesy but it is actually still really, really good. My favourite part was when Scully was kidnapped by a necrophiliac, a cult and a bunch of other loons in the space of a few episodes and meanwhile Mulder was off having sex with a vampire :D Highly recommend people give the old stuff a spin before this comes out in January.

Come on, guys. There are only just over 200 episodes and two films to watch before january 24th..Hook into it! Scully gets pretty hot in season 2 when she stops wearing tangarine man pants.

We are almost at the end of the 5th series and one of the funny things is the on-going gag of Mulder's addiction to porn. The last episode Scully called him up to ask him for some help and he said he was busy chasing down a possible suspect..and then left the phone box and went off to a porno cinema to watch 'A Decade of Dirty Delinquents'. :D

I loved the show in the '90s, and have all 10 seasons (plus the movies) on dvd. I started re-watching them all every so often a while ago and still love the show. I may or may not be in the minority here, but I love the silly episodes; the light-hearted ones that make you laugh.

Part of me is looking forward to seeing what they do with the show today, but part of me is hesitant; thinking that the show shouldn't be tampered with and potentially ruining the legacy of the show.

I must admit, I was thinking earlier this year (well before I'd heard they were going to start making more episodes) that I thought it was strange that the show really hasn't been seen on free-to-air tv as repeats since the last season finished. Given the popularity of the show in it's day, and the nature of the show (ie: mostly one-off stories as opposed to a 'Lost' style of fast-paced continuous story where if you miss an episode, you may as well forget about watching the rest!), I would have thought it would get a run on one of the many free-to-air channels we have these days.

Maybe now that there's a new series on it's way (hopefully to Aussie tv!), we might get the old series back ... but probably not back in it's old Wednesday night 8:30pm Ch10 timeslot..!

Blu-ray set has been announced. Been holding off watching the entire series again hoping the Blu-ray version would drop before the revival :)

Yeah, seen the first 4. Meh. TBH I don't really see why they bouth it back if all they really were going to do was a bunch of standalone episodes. I know that's largely what the original series for, but this is essentially an event series without...well...an event.

Still X-Files, still enjoyable, but largely irrelevant, which is a shame because the first couple of episodes set some things up nicely. Hoping for a much stronger finish in the final two eps.

Tim Armstrong of Rancid in the latest one was a weird casting choice. Did a good job though

What are you on about?

X-Files is still relevant especially in the age of the internet as an outlet for the nutters with their conspiracy theories.

Episode 3 & 4 were classic X-Files so bring on the last two episodes.

The finale was... awful. Just awful.

Jibbering, non-sensical exposition for the whole episode. And ending it on a cliffhanger?

Carter tried to ram 24 episodes worth of material into 6, and then decided to make four of them stand alone episodes. As a result the two that actually tie into the mythology arc are so rushed and bloated that they are just about unwatchable.

If it weren't for the were-monster episode (which may well be in the top 5 episodes of all time) then the whole series would have been a catastrophe.

Just started rewatching the entire series yesterday, which I've been meaning to do for ages.

Got 2 eps done. They were OK. Not sure how many episodes I've actually seen, didn't start watching the original run on tv until season 3 I think.

I've been watching the early seasons of the x-files. Such a great show, it started superbly from the pilot and I'm now up to a few episodes into season 2 which is even better. I know i never used to watch it every week when it was on tv back in the 90s, and watching them all from scratch is just thoroughly enjoyable. I recommend a re-watch or even a first watch of the first few seasons, its really well written.

In relation to the original run of the series it's completely irrelevant.

It's an event series without an event. Just tacking on episodes to get some cheap ratings without any purpose.

Standalone episodes work fine, and those episodes you mentioned would have been great within the context of a full run series back in the day, but for a limited run 6 part "event" you should be striving for something more than irrelevant, unconnected, no answers given repeats.
