Food- Little Italy, Random PIzza Shops throughout Manhattan you can find some of the most delicious pizzas, Carnegie Deli (down on 7th)

Sights- Statue Of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central Park (all mainstream stuff really), Maddison Square Garden,

Google is your friend though.......

1980... so my advice will somewhat dated. lol

You'll like Greenwich Village and the Guggenheim Museum Goz. Plus the Statue of Liberty is probably the best of the landmarks.

Riding the subway is a must do experience. The later the better.

The Peppermint Lounge, Mud Club, CBGBs... probably all dated now... and I think Nico is dead.

I LOVE NY
I long to live there one day.
Only good advice I have is on Shopping and Food, and I am guessing Shopping is not high on your priority list, Ill stick to the second best thing about NYC

The food is awesome, it maybe a bit of a cliche but you have to head to Grays Papaya on 72nd and Broady, the best hotdogs ever and super cheap, also try the coconut fruit drink its yum. I think there is another GP on 6th aswell.

A cupcake or two is needed from Magnolia's on Bleeker st, Oyster Bar in Grand Central is lush and scrummy, La Esquina on Kenmare st has the best cheap Mexican with awesome tequilla and lots of it. Shake shack in Madison Park has the best cheese burgers ever.

There is plenty more but I think I covered most of my favs.
Hope you have a great time in NYC

I've been to NY once a couple of years ago. I was only there for 3 nights as I was on my way to Canada for a cousins wedding, so I stopped over.

Ummm, it's a huge city and depends on what end you're visiting.

Manhattan - awesome upper-class area. You will see ground zero if you go there - just a huge hole in the ground really.

Brooklyn & The Bronx - let's just say it's best to keep away from there.

Central Park - must see destination. You'll be there in spring so it'll be even better.

Things to be weary of - dodgy street hawkers, some taxi drivers and errr... heaps of cockroaches there - Big ones too! - try to avoid catching trains if you can - they do get dangerous, and I would advise you NOT to use a payphone - try buying a mobile while you're there and then sell it before you leave if you need something to communicate to other people on.

Overall I loved the city because of it's heritage and history. 7/10.

Oh and for food, you won't be short of Pizza restaurants - go for them.

Also, if you pass by Union avenue in newburgh, stop at a steak house called Dennys - we don't have it in Australia but apparently its HUGE in the states :D
