So Perth bears are going to represent Rottnest island ?

Aren’t the swans owned by the afl now ? You know like the Perth bears ?

Same jersey from south Melbourne too and guess what Sydney fans didn’t care cause they didn’t know who south Melbourne were ?
1. They moved lock stock and barrel to Sydney, no playing one home game in melbourne bs or having reserves and jnrs in Melbourne
2. They changed the name
3. they changed the logo
4. they changed the kit design

if bears do that in perth then I’m on board,

He just writes whatever suits his agenda regardless of the truth. The swans clearly relocated. The Bears will not. The comparison is utter BS.

They do still have a junior team in Melbourne

And playing 11 out of 12 games in Perth doesn’t make it a Perth team ?

So if that one home game was magic weekend it would be ok ?

There’s going to be a rugby league team playing 11 home games in a 27k capacity hbf park

What else is there to do in a dump like Perth in winter ?

Logo pretty much the same after move from MelbourneSydney-Swans-Logo-history.png

Red v south Melbourne jersey still in use after move. Changed slightly in 1987.

Name, logo, colours & jersey have had minimal change over years. Initials for south Melbourne are on back of jersey to this day.

The swans club was a total relocation. The comparison between it and the WA bears suits the agenda of fools. And there are plenty here. The movement of the swans to Sydney was genuine expansion and it has worked. By comparison the insistence of the NRL to attach the Bears to Perth is symbolic of the games lack of confidence in itself. But the discussion is pointless as the drug addled idiot who inhabits these discussions 50 times a day every day will never stop posting the same rubbish ad infinitum.

Seems like having reserves is only difference, however we live in a different age where clubs have feeder teams. Storm use sunshine coast for example.

There is not a large difference in approaches between moving south Melbourne to Sydney and moving north Sydney bears to Perth.

While Norths are not an NRL club, they are still an active club with fans and members and a team and pathways that can help to bootstrap a Perth side.

Rather than starting a new club from scratch they get a head start.

I bet now that the AFL wished they moved a couple struggling Melbourne clubs to western Sydney and Gold Coast instead of starting those new plastic clubs that have not gained any real traction. After 16 years of being in Sydney the swans were a solid part of Sydney culture. GWS are irrelevant.

it’s so similar that’s it’s farcical to put them at different ends of a spectrum.

Can’t say that yet as we don’t know how it will be handled. Without WA owners running the show I have my concerns it will be done right to make this feel like a Perth club first and foremost. Time will tell.

If it is done same as swans relocation, Ie logo change, kit change, name change, focus on elite pathways in the city they now live, all home games at home etc then happy days.

Swans did not change their name or logo or kit.

Eh? They clearly added in the harbour bridge to the logo and the jersey And changed name from south Melbourne to Sydney lol
They simply added the bridge to their existing logo and existing kit. That hardly constitutes a rebrand or upheaval of their south Melbourne identity.

I’m sure Perth bears will have at least an equivalent amount of change to their logo and kit if that’s your primary concern.

That was in 1987 five years after the move. Colours & design remained generally the same even after silhouette of opera house was added. Jersey never had blue.

Haha that’s a massive brand adjustment to reflect their new home, logo and kit changed. Look at how many ns fans are whinging about a dash of yellow or the logo being modernised to incorporate something WA. under a wa ownership I’m sure it would have, under vlandys ownership I’m less sure.

If Perth bears follow example of Swans, that's means minimal changes to branding.
