New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

There problem is being yet another offering in the most saturated RL market in the world.

Unlike say the Dolphins, they are offering very little to Sydney fans. Even to Norths fans they are only a shadow of what was.

Sure there will be a temporary sugar hit, but is it sustainable.

If that gets the game expanded into the new markets then that is a positive

This is why I believe Vlandys is fecking up expansion. Perth, as a stand alone entity, is a no brainer. It’s a decade over time at least, and smothering it with a dead Sydney carcass makes no sense for mine.

The game is expanding that is the main thing. In 10 years when the squad is mainly Perth locals no one will care where the Bears name came from.... just need to get to that stage

there are some good brands in sydney that if relocated over to NZ would be huge for that relocation. TV, fans in sydney, sponsorship.
The best expansion clubs in the country are relocations.
Kinda have to ask who those teams are for for.
Why does it matter if NZ2 has fans in Sydney if they’ve got the support of their local market?
Sydney has enough options and some of the older brands such as the bears/balmain/newtown haven’t been around for a 1/4 of a century + and have had at least a generation without their existence so are we catering to fans that can still see their team albeit at a lower level that has an aging fan base that won’t be around in another generation?
Let expansion teams carve out their own identity

The issue is you need the 17 clubs to approve it and get TV to pay extra, They want this to happen while taking a home game from clubs. Potentially taking 5 weeks of content off TV.

A new club will take years to get the eyeballs watching on TV and a big fanbase attending away games.

Take the Cowboys for example. A team in a small market.
Saying to them sorry you only have 10 home games and don't host the Broncos at home this year
BUT you get a brand new shiny team x in their place...

Rightfully the club will be pissed. This way buys time for a new club to build up

I have in mind relocating an existing NRL Sydney team. Definately not a lower grade club.

I belong in the ‘something is better than nothing’ camp. I just wish it had been done earlier and cleaner. Rugby league has a great chance to swamp the large union player pool in Perth. It will definitely put a big dent in Victoria this year.

It probably should of been but RL had money issues not that long ago. Having the govt on board is huge, So if waiting brings that. Then the wait was worth it.

I don't believe Victoria came in with that in place? A school program in particular is a key piece we have in the good states.
It is key because the East Coast clubs have that and it is needed to correctly develop the Perth kids

And people say Vlandys is some visionary expansionist lol
You really need to try get over your petulant attitude toward’s PVL mate. No other chairman/ceo has been as proactive in trying to get Perth a team since NSWRL/ARL days.

If you want to be seen as some sort of WA Rugby League Guru as it looks like via your Cave page then try be a tad more measured. The constant bashing is ridiculous and for the record the same applies to the blokes that run the Den page as well.

I suggest you don't sook so much about criticism of V'landys. This comes across as overly emotional for no reason.

Go and touch some grass mate.

Is having the Feds fall over themselves to offer you millions in an ill-fated geo political stunt really that "visionary"?
Depends. That can only really be answered a decade or so after they become self sustainable - so in 2048 you should have a decent sample size to gauge it.

Any thought right now is speculative and theorising at best.

Using that same example- would it make any difference to a Cowboys fan if the new team that came in was standalone NZ2 or Balmain/NZ2? I’d wager it’d make close to zero difference
