Lots of info here

Interestingly from 2023

2023. Sept 12. Sky Twitter says there were 1.7 MILLION viewers across #SkySportNZ and #SkyOpen last weekend. 1 million watched the All Blacks (10K in te reo!) and 700k watched the Warriors. However, those numbers do not take into account any additional viewership from Sky Sport Now, which Sky was unable to provide Newshub.

So 1M watched the All Blacks in one game, and 1.59M watched the entire NRL in 10 rounds?

That's as clear as day, as to what drives NZ TV money.

Well more importantly that could mean League gets 2/3rds of that half.

Despite your blind refusal to accept this, its tough times financially and TV (in all forms) is not what it once was financially.
Yeh a 16 million dollar loss for the nrl that turns over 720 million is on par with a 50 million loss for the nzru which turns over 270 million

lol!

Say hello to your mate tunza for me

So you are now saying that losing money from NZ TV is no big deal??
Said it before

The nz tv deal is under ten percent of the total nrl deal

Not that I think the deal will be cut regardless

With the collapse in super rugby the nrl should be focusing on nz now before Union gets a chance to restructure super rugby with South African and Japanese teams

There’s a historic opportunity now Union used to be untouchable in nz

South Africa isn't coming back to NZ/AU Rugby.

It just doesn't work for them TV wise or scheduling wise.

Didn't you predict the NZ deal would double? Or was it $100mill you said it'd be worth? Hard to keep up with your predictions lol

NZ rugby union has a real timezone problem... nothing fits with them.

Australia? Sure, but few care about RU there.

Asia? Well, tough market to crack, even more so with America.

The Pacific Islands? No way there's any TV money coming from there!

No - Rugby Union's REAL big money is I Europe/South Africa and they have THE WORST timezone for NZ.

TL : DR version, all NZ RU has is basically pimping out the All Blacks to Europe/South Africa (and a little in USA/Japan) for cash.

Content is king

Not nrl fault super rugby is only a development comp rather than a genuine one in its own right

No chance union got close to nrl with 24 rounds v super rugby 14

And obviously im talking about aggregate ratings not averages per game

Nrl is dragged down by poor time slots and one game featuring an nz side v five games for nz at times
If content is king then why are you continuing making this a head to head Super v NRL, when in reality it is NRL, Origin and few test matches v Super, domestic tests, Rugby Championship tests, NPC, and EOYT tests. All of those test matches get huge ratings.

Nrl still wins easily once origins pacific cup finals and grand final all stars v Māoris are included

Last years all blacks test match got a million whilst a warriors game got 700k (maybe a final ?)

And despite having greater ratings a tv deal of around 60 percent of the reduced union deal

With two nz teams it could end up being the same or close as nrl might get 50 million whilst union will end up with 50 to 60 million

Why not own up and admit you never predicted the ru deal would collapse like this when you made the prediction the nrl deal would

??!!!

That 1m and 700k stat you keep quoting is from 2023 and comparing a match in the morning to a prime time finals match. IIRC at the time you claimed the Warriors would get better ratings. :)

I never made any predictions about the NRL deal (Te Kaha did) or the rugby deal. Furthermore, we don't have any confirmed figures for either rugby or the NRL, it's all just speculation about rugby and no idea about the NRL as there's been no indication about what any new deal will be anyway.
