It doesn’t get better with those players it becomes a watered down all stars game that has little meaning

This debate has been bubbling since sbw wanted to play maybe even sam burgess too

Ultimately the exemption for tier two nations needs to be moved

Tonga and Samoa aren’t tier anymore anyway they are on par with nz and Aus
I kinda considered your point of " waterd down"
But tell me this: if Ponga plays for the Kiwis at years end, how does that " water down " Origin? It doesn't.
Nobody is arguing that the eligibility for Origin should change, just that it shouldn't impact which country you wish to represent.
If all the Samoa boys feel passionate for NSW but still want to represent their heritage.. why can't Ponga?

The only thing it waters down is the talent available for the Kangaroos and unless you want another 100 years of 1 nation winning everything, that's a good thing.

Or is Origin " waterd down " because it will no longer be the pinnacle of the sport as internationals take centre stage? Which is also a good thing.

Yeh Ponga is much more straight forward, and there is no good reason at all he shouldn't be playing Origin. even if he is a West Aussie :)
Do did sam burgess and sbw

Cause once it’s ponga then it’s the next

Nz have loads of players the one or two who pick origin aren’t the cause of them not winning games

People know when theirs a ring in at origin and they put their head down when the anthem gets sung lol

International footy is going good now

Png and nz2 will only strengthen it

Nz beat Australia 38 nil two years ago in the final

No ponga
No nz2

But they did have Madge

Pacific cup this year without the kangaroos is going to be amazing

Australia and England should just play bilateral tours each year and leave the pac cup to nz Samoa and Tonga

Maybe png for a four nations

There isn't " loads" of Kiwis eligible for Origin. I suggest you brush up on your Origin eligibility criteria.
There's a couple and they're already playing Origin...once again, playing for NZ at seasons end has zero effect on Origin.

When the Kiwis become a legitimate powerhouse akin to the All blacks, reliably making their nation proud.
Watch the New Zealand public turn out in droves to watch them play.
Right now it's flash in the pan and a big come down like the Warriors.

I said there aren’t many players this refers

Test footy is going good

Warriors are an average / poorly run nrl club that’s the problem for rugby league in nz

All blacks have been a thing since 1890s

There’s a lot of history.

That's right:
We need another team in nz so we're not solely reliant on the Warriors and the Kiwis need to start making history.

How many more bums on seats do you think Ponga gets in a Kiwi jersey? How many more tunes in? How many more points do the Kiwis have in them...?
This could have a massive positive impact for internationals, the same as what JT did for Tonga.

Kiwis have been around since 1910 so it’s not like they don’t have a proud history in their own right.
Poor crowds is only really been in the last decade or so, If you see old footage of the 80s they had bumper crowds, been to plenty of well attended games in the late 90s and into the 00s.
Ironically the biggest decline in interest of the kiwis I’ve seen coincided with the likes of JT and the defections, this highlighted the mockery of some of the eligibility rules and people that were essentially NZers and Aussies by another name. Many NZers got turned off as if these players didn’t give a shit about the kiwis jersey why should we? The kidwell ‘the ki is the wi’ era further alienated fans and pretty much facilitated the defections. The brands credibility need to be rebuilt

There’s also been quite a bit of noise about Ponga chasing his AB dream, Hurricanes have at least been sounded out if nothing else

It was a stupid rumour

I was making fun of the person who posted it

He’s got a contract till 2027 but more importantly he’s on 1.3 million plus origin payments

The only tweak they need to make to the rules for Origin would be scrapping the ‘tier 1 has to be Australia’ rule.

If you’re born in QLD/NSW or moved there before your 13th birthday (as per current rules) you should qualify for Origin regardless of national preference.

Origin gets access to players like Radley & Kris. Kiwis get a better chance of future Ponga, Nanai, Papalii’s etc picking them.

It devalues the " origin " sense/ tribalism but as we go there's more and more of our best players who are wanting to play for Kiwis or England, so not changing the eligibility will eventually devalue origin based on talent.
Yeah I think this too

It's not really a trial to play for Australia like it used to be as playing for Australia isn't the big deal it was....in terms of games played that's for sure
