New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Kangaroos tour coming up, massive crowds a lock. Penrith getting a new stadium, hard to see him walking away from being a part of the opening of that and a World Cup which will be the most competitive yet, the union are pathetic, which deadbeat Aussie union team would he waste his time with.
Think he actually has a NZ passport which opens a few more doors if he does choose that path. (Doubt he’d leave league but chucking up a hypothetical)
If he did go it’d make more sense to go to Europe and be closer to the mrs, I’m sure the Wallabies would make an exception for him

It’d likely not affect me in any way what he chooses to do. Only move if actually care about is if he joined his brother at the Warriors but there’s a snowballs chance of that ever happening either
Good chance warriors develop him and he goes back to play next to his brother

Ivan really didn’t want to let him go

Warriors need a six too

Metcalf can’t keep carrying them forever if they ever want to be a genuine title threat

Aren’t the warriors stacking their u19&u21 teams with Aussie halves and hookers?

Most Warriors fans are thinking that’s the exact scenario that will happen with Jett, although he has said he wanted to get away from his brothers shadow.
Metcalf still think has a long way to go as a 7(although getting there) and still see him as more of a 6

The theory is that’s one of the key areas that NZ doesn’t develop talent well, having quality players at that level helps develop the players around them better than a local product would (at this point)
Also probably realistic that most would go back to Aus for an opportunity, the numbers game increases the chance that one of the good ones may get accustomed to the lifestyle/shack up and stay

Strange. I thought the same of Metcalf but since he's basically the most consistently in form half back in the comp..dally M leader!!!
I've reconsidered..
Perhaps you have another look...

Yeah certainly pleasantly surprised to see him up there in the Dally Ms!
Think he may be benefiting a bit from one of the flaws of the Dally M process by essentially bagging all the points for the team performing.
As I said he’s coming along but there’s still a heap of work ons for him,Goal kicking is a major- it’s gonna cost us games sooner rather than later, a few of our games have been much closer than we should have been where the opposition has been kept in the hunt.
His kicking game has stepped up last couple of weeks but our lack of points in the red zone has been a large point of concern, he can’t do it on his own but he also needs to take some of the criticism on.

They don't seem to have any decent set plays to put on close to the line. I think the strategy so far is to get their defence right and it's obviously working. Hopefully the attacking structure starts taking shape as they pull closer to the finals and that's everyone's job. As a half he's kicking and controlling the game- that's his job.

Channel is useless

Warriors position on the ladder is very flattering but kudos to Webster getting results from an average side

Still think rts would be a huge weapon out the back. He’s so wasted on the wing and cnk is solid without being brilliant

One of the best teams getting out of their own half every set and the attack on the opp try line is getting better

It’s a weak comp at the top it’s anybody’s this year that sort themselves out

Dogs are good but nowhere near panthers level of previous years

Once Webster makes up his mind on a player in a position it’s seems very hard for him to change.
CHT is good at playing 2nd fiddle to an experienced half but is realistically squad cover skill wise. TMM seems to have gained a ‘does not play well with others’ rep but I’d have him ahead of CHT with Healey taking the bench spot to spell Egan.
Biggest thing the Warriors are lacking is out and out speed in the backs - I’m still stunned they haven’t nabbed some decent prospects from the production line of union outside back we have.
cNK I keep flip flopping over, it’s hard to move him after the numbers he’s crunching out but surprised he hasn’t been given a try in the centres more often particularly when they’ve been forced to move capewell there.

Rts doesn’t get the ball in space or much good ball but he has moments where he looks very dangerours like the old days

At least they are finding ways to win close games which is very un warriors like

I`ve changed my mind on CNK, as you say his numbers are brilliant and he certainly adds energy and effort.
Don`t mind RTS on the wing, much more likely to turn half-chances into points, same as DWZ on the other wing. These two are essential for the Warriors to succeed.
Pompey seems to be a bit of a plodder, but I think there`s some good signs that Berry might grow into the strike centre they need.

Pompey is one of those value players you need on a squad, he’s fairly underrated- not a super star but he generally won’t let you down and not on a whole lot of coin. He started the year as probably 3rd choice centre but worked his way to almost 1st picked now, better goal kicker than Metcalf too. But he’ll stand out the odd time with something dumb like the restart penalty a couple of weeks ago.

Berrys quite a polarising player among the fanbase, he’s one of those guys that follows a game plan well but his individual stats are pretty shocking, defensively needs to work on wrapping the ball up as he tends to be a legs tackler from his union days. Again not on a lot of coin and is an example of a Webby favourite.

Ali has the most upside of all of them and has had a couple of breakout games as an attacking weapon- defensively is where he needs to round out his game but has massive potential

DWZ has struggled to shake off the rust since coming back but showed glimpses last game of getting back into form, never far away from a wrong defensive read seeing him caught out of position though.

Taine Tuaupiki is the tough one to fit and probably the unluckiest not to get in, good fullback but 3rd choice, performed admirably in DWZ absence but got caught out on height on the wing- one of those players that makes things happen around him and solid goalkicking

I think Taine would suit 14 perfectly.

Might be a little light on Auckland and a little heavy of Waikato/BOP.
Could almost tie another Auckland to combine with Northland.
Then have Taranaki/Hawkes bay/poverty bay to maybe tie in with one or more of the Waikato/BOP team and maybe tack Manawatū onto one of the Welly teams?
Canterbury 1 focus on the city, ‘Canterbury’ 2 takes more of the South Island?
