The kiwis look much more solid with Hoffman at the back, they will take some beating but I expect the class of the Australian spine and the fact the NZ spine haven't played together before is going to be a leveler. Aus by 6 with NZ taking them all the way.

Maybe once or twice. Slater and Smith have played with Cronk plenty before and all of them are in great form.

NZ will be competitive for about the first 20 mins, then Australia will run in a cricket score.

it's one where the convicts could win by 40 or the kiwis could sneak a win. Both are possible but IMO most likely is Aus 6-14 point victory

I'm pretty confident we'll win. We're at home, it's the best side we've selected in years and the Aussies selected a shit bench. If the game is close, DCE will not take the field.

Kiwis by 4.

MOM Josh Hoffman.

Indeed.

Disappointing attacking structure by us last night. Defense was ok. Australian defense was real good.

Glenn, Hoffman & Bromwich were all outstanding for us.

Kevin Locke will find it hard to get the fullback jersey back. He's destined for the wing. Foran's destined for centre probably. I'd prefer him at lock though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Aus charge down a kick of ours, and they still got the ball on a change over...and then Inglis scored.

???

Also what was up with Thurston being tackled, on the ground, passing the ball, then it all being brought back and him allowed to play the ball?

Yeah I thought he was gonna get penalized there but the ref must of called tackled before he passed. Don't think you guys (kiwis) have anything to complain about with the penalty count anyway. You got a sh**load in the first half which ended up getting you first points with the repeat sets. Not taking anything away though, good hard battle for the full 80.
Are we getting worse or are you guys getting better? Think it's the latter somehow? The thing that let the kiwis down was some bad ball handling especially when you were parked down on our line and you F****D it on the first or second. Plus i think the missed tackle count was a lot higher than us? Can't remember us making one ball handling error all night but that might have been due to too much amber.:)
Thurston/Cronk/Smith played outta their boots along with Uate who always seems to be at his explosive best in test footy. And forwards Gallon and Hannant had blinders. Great hard game!

I was pretty comfortable with the ref. I don't think he decided the result with his decisions. I think the Slater sin binning was spot on. I read one SMH article that tried to suggest that Slater should have got off. Whatever. The decision was whether it was a penalty try or not. It probably wasn't and Slater should have got 10.

One subtle knock-on went the kiwis way defending their own line. The Inglis drop ball-turned penatly was a blatant mistake by the linesman. Ref had it right and changed his decision.

It was a good even contest, won I think on the back of a better kicking game and slightly less mistakes from Oz.

That game, was more intense and hard fought than Origin. The players on the field were better than Origin....before people argue, the AUSTRALIAN team is better than Queensland. The kiwis are much better than NSW and defintely a little better than Queensland. This contest is a better standard than Origin. Simple maths.

It is also 6 years since NSW won a series. The Kiwis have won 2 in 7 years, were winning another till the last 30 seconds. Oz v Kiwis over the last 6 or 7 years are closer than NSW v QLD. Yes I know they haven't won the ANZAC test for a while, but there are pretty clear reasons why it hasn't been an even playing field. Friday night was a pretty even playing field and we got a hard fought, close match, not decided till the 70 something minute.

But the hype around Origin would have people BELIEVE that its better than Origin. The hype around Origin is unbeleivable, because its not justified.

The refereeing was terrible, but terrible both ways. I don't think a good ref would have changed the scoreline.

Not sure if trolling... BUT...

It was a decent contest - Australia never really had to go up a notch to dispose of the Kiwis. Benji had a woeful game, and Australias backline was full of errors. Dave Taylor got in Inglis's way too many times to count.

Origin is still a better contest for mine. I reckon Kiwis should be able to play Origin though, they just select which state they want to play for, and they're elligible for selection. I don't see the problem.

You don't see a problem with that?

I personally don't see a problem with it. I can however, see why people would object to it.

The thing is, our game is very multi cultural these days - lots of Kiwi boys play in our comp. Just because someone was born in NZ, but came here (for arguments sake) when they were 2 or 3 years old, and played all their footy here, shouldn't mean they can't play Origin for their state.

I dunno, I don't feel that strongly about it to keep arguing, I just thought it was maybe a point worth discussing.
