With the Roosters First Grade team looking something like:
1. Minichiello
2. Roberts
3. Soliola
4. Monaghan
5. Kenny-Dowall
6. Aubusson
7. Lewis
8. Nutley
9. Wing
10. Shillington
11. Myles
12. Fitzgibbon
13. Anasta
14. Flannery
15. Plum
16. Tupou
17. Beattie
Then the Jets, at the moment, would be something along the lines of:
1. Foley
2. Williams
3. Sa
4. Perrett
5. Mellars
6. Soward
7. Pearce
8. Tonga
9. L'Estrange
10. Shackleton
11. M Paea
12. L Paea
13. Harrison
14. Ndaira
15. Schubert
16. Nuuausala
17. Meredith
Reserves: Kostjaysn, Williams, Brown
Both teams look relatively strong, however there are a few areas where the team is weak.
If Tonga leaves, we have no accomplished PL props, leaving out prop depth still thin. D Williams & Nuuausala are both young, but still very raw. Hopefully Tonga stays, & we pick up a young rookie prop with size & talent to fill the Jets no. 8 spot. The losses of Flegg forwards Winterstein, Allwood, Horo & Rampling also damaged the depth, as well as accomplished Jets backrowers Dumas & Burns. But we have enough depth to cove for their losses, just prop that needs to be filled.
Also, on the wing is an issue as well. Neither Perrett, Mellars, Monaghan or Sa belong on the wing. Lai & SKD are both young, unproven, & IMO all the younger talented wingers should battle it out for one of the PL wing spots, with the other reserved for a more experienced winger. If the rumors are true, the Roosters should MAYBE sign Chris Walker on an incentive based contract, & have whoever is performing worse out of Walker & Williams in PL. Because as it stands, the only accomplished genuine winger in the Roosters team is Roberts, with Williams as back-up, & with Lett & Malcolm, our best prospects, leaving the Jets, there is no back-up.
Halfback is the final position that needs to be addressed. Both halfback options are our Flegg halves, both whom are impressive but have failed in the step up to Jets. I have high hopes for them though, especially with Doyle leading them around the park & teaching them tricks of the trade. Ndaira is also a possible option, mainly because he is very crafty in the Farah mould, & Stranger has locked down the hooker position. Unfortunately we had 2 young halves prospects, Jeremy Gordon, & his namesake Luke Gordon. However because Jeremy was shunted around all through the backs, & Luke was forced to play hooker when we already had an abundance in that position, both have now left the club.
That said, both the Roosters & Jets teams look strong for 2007. The Roosters/Jets PL side always look strong, just need to for one year hold on to our PL frontrow (Cusack, Rose, Hannant, Catic, Hall, & now maybe Tonga were all key players in the team reaching the grand finals, yet all have moved on the year after). Just maybe need to sign up Walker, a prop or two, & MAYBE a halfback to keep Pearce & Watts in Flegg for another year (Marcus Peranera?). As for the Roosters, it's not so much a matter of Nutley, Beattie, Shillo, Myles & co., as they are relatively one dimensional, much like Cusack, Cayless, Lomu, Robinson & co. from years gone by. As long as they go-forward & make the metres, i'm happy. It is all a matter of Lewis & Soward stepping up, Monaghan successsfully replacing Cross as the teams key strike centre, Roberts & Sia finding that chemistry that they had at the start of 2006, & Harrison & Anasta having to fill the voids of Morley & Crocker in the backrow & lock positions but bringing a different style tto the team (that's where i begin to worry).
