I doubt Garner will be starting at centre a whole lot. This happened due to Alamoti covering To'o. Ivan could have used Jesse Mc but maybe one rookie too many.

He seems to get a bit lost and gets brushed off a bit easily.
I watched him closely. His attack was sublime
There are definitely times when he doesn’t seem to be connected to Cleary, but Cleary makes some odd decisions in defence at times.

Garner was better (albeit still had a few challenges; alway are going to in the modern game at centre) but he benefited from Cole being a bit more decisive in defence.

As implied above, see very few centres that don’t get picked apart at times; Farnworth is probably one of the better ones, Critta makes a few errors in reads but often has the athleticism to make up for it. Toughest position in the field to defend, particularly on the right.

Be interesting to see how Graham Annessly goes on the Nathan Cleary no try.

The commentators all agreed it should have been a try. Having watched the replay there was no lost ball, no knock on, Will Kennedy clearly played at the ball. Makes no difference now, but be interesting to see Annesleys take.
Within the rules it's a try 100% but I don't want it to be

What I mean by tough gig is finding someone with the broad skill set we would ideally want.

Agree that the 14 is an insurance policy you hope you don’t collect on. Today we had to, and we were glad we had it in place.

You think for that role, Blaize has played fullback, wing, centre and 5/8th he has size to potentially be of use should we lose a forward or 2.

Ticks most boxes if we can get him some game time when we don't have to reshuffle then it is more helpful

Blaize needs to play 80 minutes in Cup wherever we see his future. Most nights that 14 will play 2-7 minutes. That’s not a position you want Blaize playing. Laurie is fine. Toelau is fine.

In saying that, Coles contact in defence tonight showed that he’s going to be tough to dislodge from an Ivan Cleary team if he stays fit. Having a guy in a position that typically requires protecting be a strong and even dominant defender is surely hugely attractive to Ivan. Luai ended up the package after 5 years of course. Same with Kenny, Ivan will take the limited attacking option if his guy can make the defensive line stronger. The attacking elements can be built over time.

Indeed.

I said it earlier. We don't have Luai anymore. Some evolution is required.

I mentioned it in the rumours thread re Smith and Henry but you can work through most of the pack, hell even centres and you struggle to find anyone that has shown a passing game.

Edwards has shown a bit, so expanding on that is key

It doesn't pass the pub test, but the interpretation has been very consistent since they brought the rule in: dislodging the ball in a try scoring situation goes against the attacking team.

If the exact same thing happened on the halfway line it would have been play on, 6 more tackles.

Glad it didn't cost us the game.

Twice there was a shape where Mitch jumped out of hooker close to the line with Yeo and Smith as leads and Cleary out the back. Defenders gave respect to Yeo and Cleary which isolates the one guy on Smith which Penrith set up to target as the hooker being the smallest defender and Smith runs a fade line like a second rower. One of them was the try Smith almost scored.

Just pointing it out as something that Kenny is becoming more of a threat with the ball himself but that is a lot easier to be that with Cleary in the team and the amount of attention defenders give him.

It's like the rule of what's a dropped catch in cricket where sometimes everyone who's played would say it's a catch but the ruling is it's touched the ground between the fingers so is a drop.

They make it harder then it has to be, If Kennedy wasn't there he scores.
This is the same rule when the ball hits the defender - if the defender isn't there it is a knock on.

It was a shocking interpretion
