Next 5 Rounds

I think we have reached a pretty pivotal part of the season. Players starting to come back from injury, other clubs starting to be hampered by Origin selection, and also a pretty good run with scheduling for us.

Next 5 rounds:

Round 10: Panthers (a) but still in NZ
Round 11: Raiders (h)
Round 12: Bye
Round 13: Broncos (h)
Round 14: Knights (a)

Interesting thing to note with these games are that:

a) All the games are on a Saturday which gives us a 7 day turnaround

b) Panthers, Raiders, Bye and Broncos rounds are all in NZ meaning travel is also at a minimum and players are at home for a month minimum.

With the above information in hand, how many points should we be targeting?

In my opinion with a possible 10 points up for grabs. I would say we need to get at least 8 points. (We can at least lock in 2 for the bye)

The only game I can see us having a reason to drop is against the Broncos because they are class. Every other opponent is there for the taking.

8 points in these next 5 weeks should see us well and truly into the 8 with hopefully a positive F/A.

Our current position is 10th Place with a -42 points differential and with the Eels looking like being stripped points, we should move up to 9th pretty soon.

Would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts.. I for one am very surprised at what a good draw we have for the next 5 weeks

The Canberra game is in New Plymouth, even though it is our home game.

The Broncos game comes 4 days after SOO1, so you'd assume that Thaiday, Parker, McGuire, Boyd, (possibly Oates) may have to back up or could even stay at home.

The Newcastle game in Newcastle is probably the toughest of the lot.

No reason why can't get all 10 points available, but I wouldn't be surprised if we only gather 4 or 6.

Well with the 6 players back and the replacements that were used against St George doing the job well and the imminant return of Mannering and Tui , the only thing that will hold us back is either players on the day clocking off (in which case the should be replaced in the next round now we know or RG guys are up to the task) or just poor team selection which falls back to the coach.

Panthers and Broncos have our measure. Canberra we should win. Newcastle 50/50. I'd say the Bye is probably a lock in for 2 points.

Newcastle should be a guaranteed win - Canberra are inconsistent (moreso than us, primarily because they've actually been good) - Penrith and Brisbane are both better than us, but Penrith playing a home game and good to play Brisbane around Origin time.

Guess I am saying I have no idea

I'd say we have a fair shot at the 2 points for the bye.
Not confident about any of the others, though a couple of wins would be nice.

Let's see if things really improve or last game was just a fluke.

Lock me in for 6 points - no way we don't manage to drop at least one of the "should win" games. Even 6 points in that period would see us edge into the 8, and would be better form than our recent form for the most part.

Honestly no super easy games in that list - Panthers have been looking alright and have been in tough, grindy games all year, Raiders game is outside our normal area and they are going well also. Broncos are always tough, and we never travel too well so even the Knights game isn't a gimme. I'll be happy with 6, very glad with anything higher and depressed with anything lower.

The Panthers game is going to tell us everything about this season imo.

This blow up will either fix our problem or it will never be fixed without a *massive* permanent change somewhere. I hope the last game wasn't a fluke because if we do that every week we'll make the finals. Won't ever win a comp with that squad, we need our class players to get with the program, but one step at a time...

Don't see how 1 game will tell us anything - never has in the past.

Not sure the Dragons game was a fluke - what I saw was two pretty terrible teams, and the less terrible of the two on that day scored more points - I liked the attitude and commitment, but it was pretty dire

This is the first time in a long long time serious questions were asked and the team got a massive kick up the arse, as you say our attitude and commitment doubled overnight. This was overdue by entire seasons, I can't believe something like this didn't happen since way back to 2012.

This is a huge game because it will tell us whether we have finally swung the other way as a club.
If we turn in a dog shit performance now then god help us all.

Let's be honest... the only team we've beaten that wasn't absolute rubbish was the Dogs - and they're not great this year. If they get to the 8 it will back off the back of some miracle by Des and/or other teams around them falling off.

That being said, we haven't played too many of what I would consider the middle tier, and are basically 1 from 2 against those. I'd put Panthers and Raiders in that category, plus the Knights and a hopefully Origin-weakened Broncos plus the Roosters at the end of that run.. how good will they be with their players back? Remember.. they're still down a half, a fullback and a centre from last year.

We could take all the points (ALL THE POINTS!). More likely we end up with 6 out of a possible 10 coming into the Roosters game.
