He must be referring to the plate cup finals, where teams 9-16 have a gumby finals series that is not televised... and is not actually playing finals footy.

If the Bulldogs flop next year, you’d have to say it would be either injuries or the players themselves. I think Ciraldo has proven himself. That’s why the Bulldogs are a threat this finals series, because they’ve got nothing to fear and nothing left to prove.

That’s exactly what happened at the Warriors this year- copped a pretty bad injury toll combined with a couple of key players getting to the end of their careers and the side struggled.

I’d add some humility in as well. Problematic of being a big fish in a little pond. He certainly doesn’t like criticism.

So many candidates suddenly emerging as the next coach sacked.
I‘d like to throw Craig Fitzgibbon in there.
The Sharks needed that win against the Warriors to go to second and ensure both top 4 and a home final. They had the game firmly by the scruff of the neck in the first half and lost it again.
If they go out with straight losses (again!) then surely they’d be looking at the coach.

2 Top 4 finishes out of 3 years at a club with a good roster but not a great one is more then enough to be 100% secure.

2022 - 18/6 - 2nd
2023 - 14/10 - 6th
2024 - 15/8 - 4th* - 1 game to play.

... as safe as it comes.
