Anyone watching the latest version of The Twilight Zone?

This is another show released on CBS All Access that was designed purely to entice more people to sign up to a streaming service by milking the shit out of a beloved franchise. There are a few episodes that are somewhat compelling that don't really end up going anywhere interesting or thought provoking. The rest of the episodes are completely forgettable.

Black Mirror raised the bar for this genre. The Twilight Zone 2019 falls way short.

Been pleasantly surprised by the HBO Chernobyl show so far. Seems to actually want to inform the viewer about the event and creates drama from the disaster itself not from silly character relationship crap.

Dead to Me. Watch the first 3 eps last night. It was listed as a comedy, but my god, that story gets dark fast. Highly recommend just after watching those 3 (would have watched more but needed sleep).

Just watched Catch-22 on Stan.

Good without being great. The book is as close to unadaptable as they come so it’s hardly a surprise. Beautifully shot with some seriously harrowing scenes in there too.

Finished season one of Doom Patrol today. It’s really good, comfortably my favourite superhero tv show so far.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.

The story of Elizabeth Holmes and the Theranos blood testing scandal. What amazed me about the whole affair was how many high profile people were on board with this scam seemingly without ever questioning whether or not the technology actually worked. Holmes just comes across as a soulless narcissist and an outright sociopath who was willing to put people lives at risk until her invention would finally (if ever) work.

This doco does a pretty good job of covering who Elizabeth is as well as the foundation and growth of Theranos, but is lacking on aftermath. That's probably because she hadn't yet appeared in court to face charges of wire fraud and conspiracy at the time the doco was made. I'm sure a lot more of this story is yet to be revealed, particularly relating to her dodgy business partner/lover who seems shady as f**k.

That documentary did a remarkable thing that I never would've thought possible: turned a rich, white, republican, WASP kid from California named Tyler into a sympathetic character.

Yes this has been an excellent series. I didn’t know much of the detail around Chernobyl, crazy stuff!

Yeah, watched the first episode of Chernobyl last night.

I really like it so far. I've watched dozens of documentaries on the meltdown in the past and doco's tend to be high on facts and figures but don't really cover off on the human side of things very well.

This series is the complete opposite... It's not so in depth on what has happened but so far you're seeing the immediate results that it had on the workers at the time and already in episode one, it is alluding to the ongoing issues caused after the event.

Man, Barry got so good and Dark.

If they can keep this quality up, it's going to get to peak Dexter/Breaking bad levels but with more humour.

Damn, was about to start watching. Save me some time and tells me which one, if any, are worth watching.

Different kind of Rabbit Yeah, watched the first episode of Chernobyl last night.

Chernobyl (2019)
4 episodes in, 1 to go. Scientists grow alarmed at the fact that there’s an open uranium core gushing trillions of particles into the air ; government officials respond they should just put the fire out. I don't know much about Chernobyl, and I'm sure there's some fantasy here, but its a great watch.

It's based on an event from Soviet era Russia so... You never quite know how much of anything on this subject is legit and how much is fantasy or propaganda but from what I've seen of documentaries and also heard from friends I know that live in Finland and Sweden... It seems pretty legit.

There is also a growing amount of official documentation from that era being de-classified which I would say has been source material for this series.

It's well documented and accepted as fact that the first reaction of the people running the reactor was to deny that such an event could possibly happen. It's also accepted as fact that they didn't realise that the core had essentially blown up until the following morning. It's also well documented that the Government officials running the area at the time thought it would be a good idea to shut the borders and try to contain news of the accident spreading outside of the Soviet Union. From memory, it was two or three days after the event when the Swedish or Finnish (Can't remember which) started to get concerning radiation readings caused by air pollution blowing over the border and put two and two together that the Soviets were hiding an accident.

The exact stories of some individuals involved may not be 100% correct but the macro story of the event itself would be pretty much spot on as there is more than enough evidence around to use as source.

There’s some composite characters but some of it is actually toned down. For example the firefighters wife in episode 3 stayed with him nearly the whole time in hospital and picked pieces of internal organs out of his mouth when he coughed them up.

Give Nightmare at 30,000 Feet, A Traveler and Six Degrees of Freedom a go. They were the only ones that held my interest. The rest range from boringly predictable (Replay, The Comedian) to downright awful (Not All Men, Point of Origin).

The wokeness factor is also pretty heavy handed.

Currently watching The Act which is a true story about an overly protective mother suffering from Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

I'm only halfway through the season by it's pretty f**king good so far.

I don't care what you are watching. Stop it now.

Grab Good Omens. Great little mini series. Very well produced and highly enjoyable.
