Yes you got the second bit right

Maybe look at all the other content they had to pay more money for other than rugby league

Keep talking down the rugby league tv deal going I’ll be the first to remind you when you are shown to be wrong

Revenue down is revenue down. This is before the gambling reforms come in

Again. I never said it won't go up but like most other sport it will be an inflation increase because no one has any money to get in a bidding war

Inflation over six years alone would be 20 to 30 percent increase. Then another ten percent during the deal

Then you have to factor in extra content (or are you saying that’s worth zero ?)

Thanks for the contribution though

Who is in a position to bid?

It is easy to say these things but reality is EVERY major player is in money problems

C7 has had league programs before also.

If anything it's a sign they "might" just want a copy of the "Front Bar" for NSW and QLD audiences.

It's by no means an indicator of any future bid

That is what it would be. Something to run in the North States and put the front bar after it here. Do the opposite down there

BUT there has been nothing to show they have the resources to drop $110m plus on anything

Timing is everything.

Signing a reduced deal during Covid, may have just f**ked us.

If expansion is all that comes from it the RL is still in a good place.

DAZN link to Fox could be great for the game with getting International interest

You just said they would get an inflation increase

I’m responding to your comment

And again are you saying 3 new teams plus womens and under 19 origin plus a booming pacific cup is worth nothing ?

People will bid on the nrl for what they think it’s worth to them

If nine overpaid on the Olympics or other events it won’t have much impact on what the nrl package Is worth

The next tv deal doesn’t even start for another two years and will go for five years so what happened last year is also fairly irrelevant

Something is only worth what someone is willing to or can pay.

For example NZ 2 will bring money in from NZ but there is only 1 player over there.
So NRL doesn't have someone else to push the bid up.

SkyNZ might only say the new content is worth $10m extra. Pushes their money up to $50m - so the deal has gone up but not any huge amounts.

PNG won't bring in Subs for Foxtel. Infact costs will be higher.

Their increase in subs still saw them have a 1% revenue drop. They will offer more but will have a ceiling they can go.

Stan is part of channel 9 who are trying to make up the 30% revenue drop short fall. They won't go crazy for NRL due to finanaces.

Anything they offer will be FTA and Pay tv combined. So $500m say for the lot is an increase but not huge considering where this TV deal will finish

PNG nz2 have value for Australian tv networks because their games are shown in Australia against Australian teams

You know the two extra games a round will be shown on Aussie tv ??

lol

Then you have whatever value they add to their local tv networks on top

Why do you avoid the question ?

Is all that extra content worth something or is it worth nothing ?

I don't know about that, the last two years we have been neck and neck over $$$.
If we sign a better deal , will see then.
By the way in 3 months time we have confirmation, or the the annual reports will be published which will back up my first point.
I can see that we play Nine off against the other two TV networks. Both could easily afford $110 million, so Nine has to go higher AND start the new contract NOW. So if wrangle a $25 m increase which then we have foxtel over the barrel, if it loses the NRL, so a large increase their. Also we could ask $550-650m from Nine for the whole lot, so they have stan to generate KAYO style profits... It's not over by a long shot. However if a recession/depression all bets are off however Seven will struggle to pay their AFL contract anyway, especially looking at their share price.

Reports are ch7 can't afford the next AFL deal and ch10 still being a basketcase limits what ch9 will be pushed to pay.

I believe that this deal starts at $400m cash. Ends at about $430 using the inflation. So $500m next deal is still a decent deal and on par when you take out Telstra money for AFL.

Thar pays for the new teams so that is a win for
RL moving forward

550 million seems a reasonable target with the extra content

That would be more than the afl tv deal

But according to you they can’t afford to be paying 70 million more with their current profits and the state of the advertising market
