Where extra content can come into its own is if you have enough to split into numerous packages to sell to different providers ala NFL.

breakdowns are a lot harder than they used to be. But it comes from event ticketing and corporates (for the NRL this means finals and Origins, for the AFL this means finals), wagering, sponsorship, development fees, merchandising and licensing. The NRL notes digital services income separately (AFL media is included in its broadcast revenues as its a JV with Telstra), and the NRL includes its investment revenues such as the Gambaro Hotel, whereas the AFL includes the revenue from Marvel stadium and its share of Champion data. Both bodies include their respective state bodies revenues in their income (the ones they control)

Got to remember this coming AFL deal was signed in 2022. Financial situations werent as dire as they seem to be now too.

I get that but both Fox and 7 both seem to be losing stuff. Not sure the extra SA fans for example moving to fox sees them be able to pay a crazy amount.

Using the figures ch7 quoted - which being 9 years in the future at 2% inflation a year looks to be spot on

Telstra share was atleast $50m. Given it goes 10 years in the future that moves to around $70m.

AFR or 1 of the Ch9 news said ch7 amount was $147m before the covid reduction. That with the increase they stated is $180m

That leaves without the un announced stadium upgrade cash $320m.

I can't imagine you would get the wifi updates and the like for under $100m.

So the Fox share is likely under $300m.

Taking games off guaranteed drawcards in Souffs, Bronx etc.

Replaced by the lesser drawing PNG, Perth who also have the added benefit of costing more to produce

No one said they weren't interested. They just don't have the money to drop $120m or so on NRL

Would love for Fox to other a deal so big it includes live coverage of GF day and Origin. I’ll never watch 9 again.

Having an official say publicly they are open to it suggest they do. They wouldn’t be open to it if they didn’t have the funds and definitely wouldn’t publicly state they are open to it if they couldn’t afford it. They wouldn’t also be aware of how much it would cost.

But none of that has anything to do with splitting up the rights.

I said if nine don’t pay a good amount then offering Fox the streaming will

I think Fox would pay 20 million pa to stream origin leaving nine to pay 130 million for their current package

That’s on top of stan and maybe seven plus bidding for the pay tv rights

The top Fox games pulls 400-500k.

The 400-500k who are RL fans are the ones at pubs, clubs etc watching it in a group. These people aren't counted now and won't be under this move. As the majority of whom won't changing their viewing

The casual/passing fans who are the target group for these big events and hence the only reason sports need FTA. Will still watch so the net result is still a negative for all except FTA that gets the same result for cheaper.

There is a reason why NRL haven't already done this
