Don’t forget sky nz on top of those Aussie numbers so 550 million is certainly a good chance

Who knows seven may well be bidding for origin

The big issue is pay tv fta value is 20 percent of the total. Nine have men’s and women’s origin which mean that alone justifies them keep the rights and they won’t want to split origin with seven whilst they keep nrl

Nine paying 140 to 160 is small bickies vs Foxsports paying 300 to 500 million

There’s loads of things the arl can do to get money out of Fox including Monday night football and allowing them to stream origin
You have to remember value for streaming Is increasing subscriptions. Would having origin increase subscriptions? in simplistic terms buying origin for $30mill would need to generate 100,000 new subscribers.

Best case scenario, at least revenue wise, is ch9/stan offer over $500mill for the lot and dazn consider nrl too valuable to lose for their new investment. If that happens then we’ll get a good result.
If 10/Paramount were prepared to stump up $600m for the fumbleball it`s hard to think they wouldn`t be interested in the other nationally significant sport.

I am very concerned about quality of covg and what that could do for growing the fanbase if ch9 get full rights. Their track record of game covg doesn’t inspire confidence!
Let`s hope their getting rid of clown-in-chief Paul Vautin is signalling a change in direction.

Origin would be huge for Fox

Origin rates what 3.4 million a game

Imagine what numbers Fox would get to drive subscribers

I bet if Fox did get the streaming rights total viewership would still grow

Nines exclusivity over origin is a huge thing for them if they don’t value it highly enough then the nrl should monetise it

Nine are currently valuing the nrl for 65 million whilst the afl is valued by seven next time for 170 million

There’s a huge disparity there

Correct. You'd likely get those with Subs tuning in but a casual will just watch the free version

You have been told many many times why the disparity is there.

You chose to keep your head in the clouds that is on you

Look whose back

To add nothing again

Because you are too dumb to understand any of the discussion the adults are having

for the 10000000000000 time

Look at the ad breaks in Origin or RL in general compared to AFL.

There is your answer as to why a service that gets income only from commercials is paying more for one than the other.

How many ad breaks does the afl origin have you goof ?

Nine are paying 65 million for the nrl club comp whilst seven pay 180 million for our rivals

Four of the top ten programs every year on fta are rugby league

Sure

Afl origin zero ad breaks
Nrl origin 75 ad breaks

You think the nrl getting 65 million for its club game vs afl getting 170 million for its club game is fair value ???

You have such a poor opinion of rugby league I guess

Who said Perth doesn’t add anything to the TV deal?

Might want to look at the recent AFR article.

it will add some but FTA is played out of prime time.

Origin is perfect example Perth rates 100k less than Melbourne. No doubt the Fox replay goes well over there.

Say Stan gets the rights. How many subs realistically are moving across?

Yes I hate rugby League you f**ken dropkick.

NRL round on FTA

3 games. 3 pre games. 3 half times. Ave 5 tries a game. Add 2 HIA or other times for ads.

AFL round

4 games. 4 pre games. 8 qtr breaks. 10 goals a game.

What has more value for neutral TV execs?

You’re the one that accused me of watching too much league and not other sports

So you are saying that afl getting close to three times the nrl deal is justified right

Time to take those meds

Origin alone means the fta rights are valuable

And then on subscription tv where ads don’t mean much the nrl dwarfs afl

Both the AFL and Cricket turned them down despite big offers. Theyve since been merged and have new leadership. Its hard to know whether they'll bid again.

Its more than that - its also Seven getting to show the local teams in their own markets which gives Seven local wins in SA and WA, while getting higher ratings than otherwise expected if they only showed the national game like the NRL do.

This also detracts from Foxtels rights, something theyve begun to address with delayed coverage (3 games in each market), and giving Foxtel exclusive Saturdays for the first 8 rounds of the season, and no coverage on Saturday in Melbourne before round 15.

And yet according to you Foxtel just paid through the nose for those games

Given nrl games have greater exclusivity (and ratings) it’s a benchmark for nrl to beat

And padding those ratings across various markets for a game is a misleading way to do it

Foxtel did pay more - as did Seven - who receive more Thursday night marquee football as a result.

Ive said repeatedly - and you continue to ignore - average ratings are not everything.

And padding those ratings across various markets for a game is a misleading way to do it

Its not misleading as long as you understand what the data represents, it is what it is.- rugby league lead the way with this for years sshowing different live/delayed games in NSW and QLD on Friday nights, and I never saw a single league person say a word about it being unfair to the ratings.

Why wouldn’t ratings be everything for subscription tv

That makes zero sense

Aggregating multiple games is manipulation of the highest order

Obviously something which you’ve never called them out for
