So your house isn’t worth what you paid for it bc you got a mortgage on it ?

Someone didn’t study economics did they ?

How an asset is funded has zero impact on its value. Econ 101

WTF where did I say it wasn't worth it? It is worth $3bn BUT the asset is already costing whatever the loan amount is.

They want to limit any further losses or that asset goes

How is it possible that Foxtel sold for $3.4bn when they were just on the verge of collapse and "desperately needed an asset" according to Vlandy's?

Collapsing to being worth $3.4bn in the space of a few years is quite an amazing achievement.

Its not all cash. Valuation + Foxtel/Telstra debt buyout + Foxtel/Telstra equity in the company.

“As of June 30, Foxtel’s total paid subscribers hit nearly 4.7 million, a 1% increase, driven by growth in Kayo and BINGE subscribers, partly offset by fewer residential broadcast subscribers.

Broadcast subscriber churn in the quarter was 11.7% compared to 11.1% in the prior year. Broadcast ARPU for the quarter increased 6% to A$90.”

360 dollars pa multipled by 2 million subscribers = 720 million dollars for the pay tv rights

And that’s before you include ads

“Australians watch more sport than any other country in the world, which makes this deal an incredibly exciting opportunity for DAZN to enter a key market, marking another step in our long-term strategy to become the global home of sport," says DAZN chief executive officer Shay Segev.

"Foxtel is a successful business that has undergone a remarkable digital transformation in recent years, and we are confident that our global reach and relentless pursuit of innovation will continue to drive the business forward and ensure long-term success.

Kayo had 1.55m paying total customers at June 30 (and the average number for the year is 1.45m). Paying an average of around $35 per month, gets just over $600m for last year.

That covers the rights to the NRL, AFL, Cricket, Supercars and F1 in particular as well as whatever they pay to the NBL and Supernetball and others.

You add production to that aswell. I can't imagine Matty Johns alone isn't on $1m+ a year.

F1 is $40m a year

Very unlikely, BUT if anything like that happens again, can we have a sensible peace settlement afterwards?

The document signed on 19 December 1997 set the game back even further than the war itself!
Warriors and Christchurch nrl teams to merge into a jv playing all their home games at Wellington ?

The situation as stated in today`s SMH:

"And while DAZN has a record of investing in domestic sports rights in major markets such as Japan, Germany and France, the likes of the NRL’s Peter V’Landys and the AFL’s Andrew Dillon may eventually appear too small fry for the streamer now cosying up with FIFA boss Gianni Infantino and oil-rich Saudis.

"Those behind the deal at DAZN say the company’s resolve for the NRL and its like, which is about to kick off broadcast negotiations for the 2027 season and beyond, has only strengthened, but V’Landys may have to adjust expectations for a bumper deal in the region the AFL managed to land in 2022."

So they are interested, just a question of how much they`ll pay and how desperate Nine/Stan and 10/ Paramount are.
We might be relying on the two FTA broadcasters to get a decent bid out of DAZN.

So that’s why you decided to count it as zer

because the breakdown for what ad space goes where is unknown

DAZN streams sports. Kayo the sports streaming service they bought has an annual revenue of $35m.

Given that is the one part they certainly will keep. That is a good starting point

Sky News are staying with News limited - so that revenue goes to them

The binge side who knows once they lose more content might be passed on elsewhere

Goes with what I said last week.

I'd follow the NBA's path

Sell these seperate

Thurs
Friday
Sat
Sunday
Reps and Finals

Broken up like that you have it more viable for more networks

Yes because having your sport across multiple fta has worked in Australia for anybody
