I think what happens is that people may keep Foxtel for other sports atm. I keep it for the cricket. I don’t need it and I agree that I wouldn’t have it - if the nrl was not on it. If Stan wins, which I think we expect to happen then pretty much Stan gets a ton of subs overnight. The business case stacks up for them to put a massive deal in to oppose Foxtel.

If they dropped NRL and AFL. You'd be paying $15 a month not $35 so that it is more appealing.

As for the Stan side of it. It is hard to gauge. You watch Origin or any ch9 game and they flog off Stan shows. How many RL have a Stan membership as a result isn't publicly known.

They'd be able to know internally and will weigh up the costs and make a judgement from that

No nrl kayo loses one million subscribers from middle of feb till mid November

Foxtel also loses another 650k subscribers for the same period

Stan gaining 1.65 million subscribers paying 20 bucks a month = $$$$ 400 million dollars. (At a minimum). With advertising maybe closer to 500 million (it’s probably closer to 2 million subscribers)

Foxsports would end up losing money and needing outside investors to keep the network running with costly cricket and afl deals

Seeing how (un)viable Foxsports being carried only by afl and cricket will only increase the value of future nrl tv deals

Does 9 really have the appetite to spend

200m on FTA on nine for 3 games
Then 400m for the other 5 games on Stan

On top of the 85m pa they are paying for the Tennis through 2029, the 305m they are paying for Olympc broadcasts (228m still to be paid for 2028 and 2032), plus whatever Rugby Union ends up costing. (now about 23m per year), and whatever they end up paying for UEFA rights if they renew (previously about 40m a year)

Stans total revenue this year was $447m for 2.3m paying subscribers.

The media group’s profits declined from A$194.5m (US$132.4m) to A$135m while its television business saw a significant 32% drop in earnings.

On the positive side, Stan delivered 5% revenue growth to A$447.7m with earnings rising 24% to A$46m on the back of 2.3 million subscribers, up from 2.2 million last year.

The technology for steaming in 2024 simply isn't good enough. As bad as it is to say I hope Foxtel survives for the foreseeable future
We've been using a starlink satellite broadband service in tow with kayo for 2 and a half years now, and literally watch every NRL game either live or on demand. Haven't had a single issue since switching to this broadband technology.

this is not based on any factual basis at all. But wild ass assumption on your part. As usual. I get its your fantasy and all...but at least you could admit it

There is no data on sport subscriptions as opposed to non sport in STB units, other than the fact that Kayo and Binge are pretty much the same in terms of numbers, and no reason to believe thats not true in the set top box department.

Seeing how (un)viable Foxsports being carried only by afl and cricket will only increase the value of future nrl tv deals

And Supercars, and F1s in particular - both of which rate well.

DAZN have worldwide offerings of their own to add to this mix.

Kayo drops out all the time and it is at least 30 seconds behind. On the rare times I've had to use it or the Foxtel app I had to turn my phone off. Mates msgs pop up before the opposition scored everytime.
The technology simply isn't there

I rarely watch Live because either being at games or getting kids in bed.

When I do watch Live. Games are almost impossible to watch chromecasted to the TV especially the bigger rating games games

Well shit for brains.

When the Panthers play at say 8pm on Friday. How do you watch the 6pm game live?

Maybe if you attended games you would see this problem.

Yes so me watching a 6pm Friday game at 11pm when I come home from another game has zero affect on reading information about the state of TV here.

As opposed to yourself that just tells bullshit non stop

Maybe once dazn realises they have nairu as well things will change

Or who knows maybe they will try for China again

Meanwhile Vegas, Christchurch, png, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and a growing super league
Exactly, AFL provides zero interest to anyone outside Australia. Hopefully any deal the NRL may sign with DAZN in future will make it easier for new international viewers to lay there eyes on our game. Once they do they'll love it.

It’s obvious why you have such a low opinion of the nrl as a tv product since you don’t use it

Me I watch around six games a week and would ditch Foxtel the minute they lose the league

As would most people who actually watch nrl games on Fox

Good chance they go for super league

Sky cut the last deal around 30 percent so it’s cheap

And they could put more effort in marketing the game to Aussie audiences

You get up to 30k Aussies saying up to watch live premier league games at 3 am

Something that league fans would do if super league was marketing more
