Next TV deal discussion 2028 -

In all likelihood the gap between the two deals is somewhere in the $120-130mill a year range from 2025-2027. No small change.
So with the fumbles having 8 more first grade players per squad over 17 teams and then add the 18th team 38 players, total 174, equivalent of about 6 NRL first grade squads, not to mention the same with the women plus the extra teams more than the NRLW (and the fumbles pay them more) all of a sudden that prob $100m difference isn`t so large.

The AFL already distributes less to the clubs than the NRL

Not sure of your logic on this? In 2023 payments to clubs was:
NRL $360.8mill
AFL$393mill

Earning more money allows you to spend more on your core business, ie clubs, particiaption, marketing etc. They are not for profit companies and don't have shareholders to pay profit dividends to.

My point is that their wages bill is far, far higher than ours so that negates a large portion of any difference in extra broadcast revenue.
Admittedly broadcast revenue makes up a smaller portion of their overall revenue, which allows them to spend more on those other things, but that is another area the NRL is making great strides in.
So looking at it like a business, at the end of the day if we can match them in revenue, our tighter labour costs give us more money to spend on the other things: promotion, participation etc. etc.
V`landy`s said recently that a successful P.N.G. and Perth sides will ultimately triple the NRL`s overall revenue, o.k. typical V`landys hyperbole, double is probably realistic then.

But the club funding level is not that different, especially when the NRL adds the 18th club to bring numbers equal? If NRL earns more clubs will get paid more so they can pay their players more, thats how it works.
Looks like from reports revenue has gone up around 10% this year for NRL. It'll be a while at that rate till we catch AFL's. Hopefully a bumper TV deal will close the gap considerably, be interesting to see how the PNG funding is treat and if NRL puts it on the books as revenue, but it currently remains around $300mil a year gap, not helped by the sht tv deal Vlandys signed.

Only because afl included a govt grant of 125 million on marvel stadium as income

An item which is not recurring

Hard to see where the extra revenue goes when average wages are similar and clubs receive a similar funding

Where’s that extra 200 million a year go ? Where has it gone for the last 20 years ?

Looks like they blown a lot of money on vanity projects

And the reality is gws and the suns have failed. Afl will be stuck with those duds until they can them. And Tasmania will be a badekcase too

$102mill to be more accurate.
You can see in the annual report where it goes.

This has the redevelopment grants removed. ($235m as of 2023).

Not only does the AFL give more money to its clubs, but It gone to fund the AFLPA, the development body expenses of 5 different states - there are vastly more AFL competitions and teams in Qld and NSW than there are league comps and teams in SA and WA for example - expansion operations in QLD and NSW, and facilities and stadium funding.

And the reality is gws and the suns have failed. Afl will be stuck with those duds until they can them. And Tasmania will be a badekcase too

They'll fail when the AFL decides they fail, not league fans.

Red you were arguing to you were red in the face that their deal was going to be $160m/yr or whatever bigger than ours, now your saying it`s maybe less than $100m/yr, and that`s before our next deal. What gives, that`s an almighty turn-around.
