I know basic reading is beyond the comprehension of some on this forum but he literally said Pvl has said revenue will increase three times so let’s be conservative and say two times

Not rocket science boys

Being positive about rugby league sure does seem up upset some of the denizens on here

They are our closest relative apparently, some more closely related than others.

I agree that adding Perth and PNG will add value to the NRL as it will bring additional eyeballs to the game, sponsors, players, TV money and other spinoffs. But do you seriously think adding these 2 teams will add 700m in annual revenue? Just think of it logically, 17 existing teams in rugby league heartland areas generated just over 700m in revenue, yet a team in an AFL state and a third world country will double what these 17 teams bring in.

While I might have contrary views to some and question some points, I think that rugby league is in arguably its best ever position and PVL and Abdo should take credit and be proud of their efforts. But lets not put out pie in the sky figures that these 2 proposed new teams are going to add 700m in annual revenue based on your conservative estimate of double or PVL saying they will add 1.4bn pa because they will triple revenue.

Think big picture mate, I expect that`s what V`landys is doing. We`re going to have a competition with an arc from Western Australia to NZ, with massive expansion into the geopolitically crucial Pacific. Remember Wong was invited to the inauguration, French President and English PM weren`t, Rubio`s first meeting was with Wong the day after, the Yanks are focussed big-time of what`s happening down here. They are watching very closely our sports diplomacy, this could open a lot of doors if it shows signs of promise.
Lots of doors could mean lots more funding to expand the game into the Pacific.

Agree that the NRL has expansion opportunities and head office should think big. Talking about ministers, sports diplomacy and funding from governments or whoever to keep the Chinese or any other threat away to justify how revenue will double by adding Perth and PNG, these 2 teams will not add 700m or 1.4bn to revenue. Revenue went up from 700m in 2023 to 720m in 2024 with the inclusion of Dolphins in their second year.

Pvl means expansion will see revenue rise a lot

They’ve already said 1 billion is their immediate goal

With nz2 png and Perth then it’s going to be ten games a week

Down the track what could the tv deals for nz and png worth ?? Maybe 200 million combined vs 32 million currently

How much money can they make from test match football ??

Bledisloe is worth 50 million pa to union via gate and tv deals. And the league tests blitz its ratings

Why nit pick if it’s 300 %. 200 % or 100%

Obviously Pvl is exaggerating

Why not just buckle up and enjoy the ride he’s put the game on

Agree that league has options to continue growing.

I am not nit picking when PVL says Perth and PNG will triple the league's revenue. That is a blatant BS and when some try and justify it or deflect when others question it. At least be somewhat realistic when you mention a number. It's like Gil when said AFL is number 1 in QLD and people on here saying he is deluded and lieing and questioned it.

Just accept Vlandys is a Trump type personality and is likely to say sht that has no grounding in reality.

That’s probably true but rugby league needed someone like him to get things done

Clubs and the state bodies have had too much control over the game and held back expansion

And they were talking about a game in Vegas for almost ten years till he got it done

Agree. PVL and Abdo have done alot of good for the game and should receive praise/congratulations. But at the same time his BS should be called out and people shouldn't be called non-league supporters or AFL trolls for doing that.

Kayo going up 5 dollars a month

At 1.5 million paid subscribers that’s around 90 million extra pa

Looks like nrl fans are getting slugged for paying for Fox overpaying for the afl

Someone's got to pay for increase tv deals. And its always the customer. They know they have a monopoly, I'm surprised its stayed as cheap as it is. Sky sports in UK is $40 a month.

They don’t have a monopoly anymore

If Stan get the rights it’s going to be joyous watching Foxtel struggle mightily

And I can’t stand nines coverage I would be watching games on mute for five years

Nrl fans are getting slugged for the afl rights

If they keep the nrl then there will be another increase to cover that

They do for the countries two main sports if you want to watch your club every round. If that changes in 2028 time will tell.

All foxsports/kayo subscribers are being slugged for increased rights deals, as they will be again in 2027 to cover the NRL's increased deal (if they retain them). How else do you think they are going to pay more for rights?

Hence why all networks/Streamers have a point that they won't bid

They are subsidizing overpaying for the afl by giving the nrl unders

It’s been happening for ages

And no they don’t have a monopoly paramount and stan both bid for the afl rights last time

Depending on how keen Stan are for the nrl will determine of the deal has a 5 or a 6 as the first number

Reminder 70 percent of the most watched programs across all foxtel programs are rugby league

It’s nrl then daylight

Stan could literally become the dominant pay tv platform by getting the nrl

So if there is a bidding war for the NRL rights and Foxtel pay significant overs, will AFL fans be allowed to complain that their subscription cost went up because Dazn overpaid for the NRL rights, or are NRL fans only allowed to complain?

The NRl deal was signed before the AFL one lol
Or are you claiming Vlandys signed an unders deal so AFL could get more money when they went to the table later?
