Be interesting to see if 9/Stan go for it all if they would also be willing to just keep the fta if fox win the ptv? If 9/stan 10/paramount bid for it all and leave fox on their own who are only able to bid for ptv I wonder what the nrl does? will the advantages of being aligned with an international streamer

Mmm... with the drift to streaming, holding FTA rights alone really defeats the purpose, you need the lot. The Indigenous All-Stars game a classic example, 1.2m viewers about half on FTA.
We`re seeing it with Seven already, really going in with the cross-promotion. Nine has television, radio and newspapers to work with.

Alternatively, with 60 % of homes having smart Tv`s, how long before a streamer can put a couple of games in front of the pay-wall to satisfy anti-syphoning laws. Then they could but the lot.

And then of course there is how much is the pull of being aligned with an international streamer worth.

as far as I know the 1.193m is the reach figure you guys dont believe in. No Fox data has been released that Im aware of and the numbers are too coincidental.

Reach, average who cares, 1.2m people tuned into have a look, that`s what Nine/Stan will be interested in. Throw in the Fox, Kayo, regionals and NZ prob close to a million anyway.

If we are talking about the Gordon's increasing their interest in Nine Entertainment, it is a public listed company and they will not be emptying their wallets by lending their personal wealth to the company so it can bid for the NRL.

The Saudi's buying into Dazn and then backing them with lines of credit is a completely different story as Dazn is private and the Saudi's have endless money and may also be looking to corner the global sports streaming market, although NRL rights (while crucial in Australia) would not be at the top of anyone's list if that is their aim.

Gordon doesn’t just benefit if nine gets the nrl rights as a shareholder

He also owns win tv

Just the fact he’s buying nine shares shows he’s bullish on the networks prospects or might even want to take it over

Both Fox and nine have deep pockets now for rugby league despite what a few people were saying here about them not being in a strong position financially
