'ESPN, which has been in Australia for 30 years, will remain on Foxtel and Kayo, as well as Telstra’s Fetch TV, after its launch on Disney+.'
Disney via ESPN would charge fox for access to their content. With NRL presumably they can charge more if they want to continue that arrangement or on sell some games. Who knows, im not in that field but more competitive tension is better for NRL

stole? Lol they got a sht load of cash and tv expected something for it. We’ve already sold Thursday nights and ptv exclusive saturdays, wonder what tv expects from us to offer $550mill?

Isn't wb currently hoping various subscription services bid for different parts? I'm not sure how many of them are free. So he seems to think locking things behind a pay wall is fine, right up until he needs to make an argument against it.

the saturday thing has been known for years. Media only just reporting on it now
Nah it was announced as only for a small part of the season

Other parts of the tv deal the afl didn’t disclose

1. One extra round season “gather round”
2. Tasmanian afl team

At least the nrl is open about the extra content added to get a bigger tv deal

How many FTA broadcasts for NRL and AFL in their respective 2025 regular seasons?

If "the Saturday thing" means fewer for AFL than in previous years, the combined FTA/PTV aggregates should be a fairer measure of relative popularity.

there is no material change in the number of FTA broadcasts for the AFL. Thursday nights replace Saturdays, there are more Sunday broadcasts. Previously where there was a Thursday night, there was no Sunday afternoon. People arcing up over this are stupid.

So the adjustment hits AFL aggregates only if Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons are less popular with FTA viewers than Saturdays?

Correspondingly, Fox will only gain if AFL fans are prepared to pony up for Saturday games.

"People arcing up" when asked to pay for a service that was previously free is not uncommon. The history of the UK NHS is distinguished by similarly indignant responses.

The other income stream for Fox/Dazn from buying sports rights, is the Clubs/Pubs subscribing. Not sure if still the case but they used to charge based off the number of pokie machines

We arent even close to knowing what the nrl will offer to get max $’s.

the tassie club was mentioned but was still being negotiated at the time and was mentioned so accordingly.

Afl sold an extra team an extra round and games moved behind a pay wall to get a bigger tv deal

None was mentioned at the time of the deal but I did work out their bs later

Some of the fumbler accounts were trying to say the afl gave those away for free
