And yes. 9 are surely motivated to get the whole lot. Streaming & FTA.

As for Amanda Laing, I cant wait for more highly innovative changes such as that reversal of the direction of the broadcast clock. Great stuff !

Remember Ten just bought Win (TV coverage area) Northern NSW and Southern QLD .... millions of viewers... who happen to Love Rugby League.... It a good fit. Give four games to FTA....
One game on ch 10 each week will be interesting experiment. Perhaps they could own a particular day. Thursday or Monday night.

Stan and Dazn bidding against each other should see the pay tv rights go for 450 to 550 million pa on their own

If streaming of origin and mnf is offered then more like 550 million

That still leaves fta which are up close to 4 percent this year at around 175 million

Then nz at 30 to 50 million

And whatever money they can make from streaming games in png and the pacific

Obviously pay tv is the bulk of the deal

If Stan get the pay tv rights it will be a disaster for Dazn

If Ch9/Stan go all in on a bid on their own would Fox have to find a FTA provider to partner with there bid, or would Ch9 edge its bets either way and offer bids for FTA alone and FTA/PTV together.

Nine would pay for the fta but obviously not as much as if they bundle it all together

Seven don’t sound super keen for origin but they can keep nine honest by lodging a bid

Maybe ten surprise us and bid for fta plus origin (doubt it)

Most likely scenario imo if Stan get Foxtel up over 450 million at a minimum. If we are really lucky and they are serious who knows how much it ends up at

The rest of the tv deal can go for unders if need be

Streaming of origin, mnf and expansion will be very valuable for Foxtel

600 million for the whole deal would be a poor result imo. (Aus nz)

If they really did a ten year deal it would need to be 700 million plus at a minimum

If Pvl does a ten year deal but no origin streaming or mnf as a way to get more dollars he’s an idiot

Pacific TV deal being bigger than Australia's is a big call and sounds far fetched. However, PNG has their own team coming in and to be fair, until now I don't think any NRL administration has really tried to monetise it properly.
We already know, and have long established, that the NRL is Number 1 in PNG. The addition of a team may augment that, but how do you up from Number 1?

But say its the sole reason, PNG suddenly goes from ZERO to $50M a season in TV revenue. Couldn't the game get say $10M now? Heck even $2M now?

For mine, If its not being monetised now, even in some very small form, what chance is it to be monetised in the future?

Stan and Dazn going at it is what they need to see…

Not a lot of quotes from Nine/ Stan in that Australian article though…appears to be just someone reading the tea leaves …

$700m from Australia and PNG is going to beat it.

I don't know what the number will be, I certainly don't think it will be huge, but it will probably be more than it is now, because we've never made an effort to monetise it before

Why not try to monetise it from say next season, or the season after that? Knowing that PNG isn't coming in for a few years yet.

Is it because there is no way to "monetise" it?

Telstra now owning Digicel may also be a future factor, though they arent a charity and if they dont think they can make a profit from it they arent going to be splashing out. Dont know if there is much mobile phone operator competition in the pacific but I suppose if Telstra (Digicel) paid say $10mill a year for PI NRL rights they could offer them as part of phone packages like they did here to become preferred providers of a RL loving public. Theres around 6.5 million mobile phone users in PNG+Fiji.

There's only 2.5mill internet users in PNG at moment so streaming revenue isnt going to be huge.

Currently Digicel (Phone, tv, internet) only has 2.8mill subscribers in total across all services across the pacific so theres certainly room for growth based on a use group of over 7million phone users alone.

By comparison Telstra has over 25 million total service subscribers in Aus.

I don't know why. I'm not on the ARLC. All I know is we haven't made an effort to monetise it in the past and PVL seems to think he will make the effort to do it when PNG comes in, so you'll have to ask him that.
