It will prove once and for all which sport matters to pay tv and which is filler

Stan would become the dominant steaming platform in Australia
Stan with nrl , super rugby and epl, fox with afl, Aleague, wallabies , f1 and nfl would be pretty much same subscriber level you’d think.

For Stan to get big nrl numbers it would need to simucast and show all games, if it only showed 6 on stan i could see subs dropping from current rate, especially if streaming isnt as good quality as kayo.

It would have to be simulcast with a FTA station as those events are on the anti-siphoning list.

I wouldn't complain if it meant we get Origin and the GF ad-free and at 4k.

Yes but FTA coverage is profitable because it is able to sell these 4 events as audience of 3m people.

You reduce that and it makes fta less valuable or not at all and the game goes the way of the A League or Super Rugby.

There will be a few people on here squirming now

The ones who said the weak advertising market would mean this tv deal would be a struggle

And how nine wouldn’t be bidding for the pay tv rights and would struggle to pay more for the existing rights

Hilarious predictions

What has been your prediction this past 12 months for the next deal ? + 10%?

I am one of the few people who don't have a problem with the current deal

Really is hard to say because if they reduce rounds then the TV deal isn't as good.

PNG is decent enough for extra content but in place less Broncos games

I think they keep as is, TV wears the extra cost of PNG and Perth now and $550m average is where it ends up.

I think that’s about a $100m more than what you have previously been saying… and could be more

don’t want to get too carried away based on one tweet … but they needed a credible bid from Nine/Stan to get a big result …

I think the best result is that they make DAZN pay more and nine keeps the three FTA games …

that wasn't me that said that.

I believe the reports that this current deal is cash.

If it starts at the reported $409m then this current deal ends over $450m when you add the 3% or whatever the inflation is.

That is assuming it stays at 27 rounds of course

Putting GF and Origin on pay TV is a good way for the sport to go backwards
Origin and the GF are both on the anti-siphoning list so they will never go behind a pay wall exclusively.

It would be f**king nice to have the option to see both in 4K on Fox though, the 4 games a year of Ch9 I have to watch is 4 too many.......

It's absolute garbage.

I'm curious why you think having the GF and SOO on a FTA network (9/7/10) and Fox League is a bad thing? Giving more choice to the consumer is always a good thing.

I don't believe for one second that FTA is going to die off because 4 major Rugby League events are simulcasted.

Yeah and each year, 4 of the top 5 programs on TV are these events, you take say 1m off them and where do these program sit?

Or put it another way you are wiping 1/3 the value off these games. Not sure Pay TV fills the void unless it is exclusive

I think all RL fans would prefer it but as an unbiased board of a TV Network not so sure

Who that has Fox/Stan is going to watch FTA?

Plenty of journos ( who are paid by a TV companies ) say the Origin period brings in 80% of the money for ch9.

If they aren't able to go to x company and say we have exclusive rights and can give you 3-4m eyeballs on your product

Then they lose that money. That is the sort stuff that then prices NRL out of FTA.

Short term the RL fans get better coverage and no commercials etc.

Long term RL misses out on the casual fans who could be new the state or any of the other benefits FTA brings

you don't think Pay Tv would have to pony up and pay for the privledge?

Anyways, neither origin or the GF is going to be shown on Pay TV so you're arguing over a scenario that is not going to happen.
