Over the past 20 years afl has generated probably 2 billion more revenue than nrl
2.748b - not including Government grants for Marvel which is another 225m.

And yet in terms of net assets there’s only 100 million difference
Afl exaggerate revenue by showing all marvel as revenue rather than net profit
Its what accounting does when you have a 100% subsidary status. Marvel contributed 43.6m in revenue in 2024.
Nrl could show all revenue from gambaro vs profit it makes
The NRL shows revenue from its hotels in Sundry income. This was 23.768m in 2024.

Neither the AFL nor NRL provide costs for these operations. Oddly the Hotel operations are not listed as subsidaries of the NRL/ARLC.
Net assets is key. And it’s not like afl club finances or wages are better than nrl
Where’s it gone ?
Mostly in depreciation of a 25 year old stadium (more than 20m a year), but also changes to accounting practices means that Lease liability became a big deal - 80m for the AFL v 10m for the NRL, whereas it used to not be reported this way. Further the AFL hasnt purchased any new assets since November 2016 - until the purchase of Waverly Park a few weeks ago, whereas the NRL has been loading up on Hotels and accommodation premises.
