regardless what marvel land is worth, I’d assume it’s zoned for recreation/stadium use only. They couldn’t hand it over to a developer and play all games at the cricket ground

Its a large CBD block surrounded by offices and accommodation - like literally office towers are immediately on its sides. I wouldnt say that at all - and they could play all games at the cricket ground if they really wanted to - its about 4 games a week - and almost all clubs might prefer that option anyway.

The victorian gov just gave the parasites $300m in taxpayer money to redevelop their own wholly owned asset, they aren’t going to be too happy for them to turn around & sell it off to developers and collect the windfall… may even be enough to jeopardise any future sweetheart deals with the state government…. or more likely the Victorian gov would probably end up funding a rebuild for them somewhere else…

It’s earning them a Motza every year, they arent going to sell it off unless it’s absolute dire straights, in which case they won’t care what the govt thinks. The discussion was afls asset base and the fact the marvel stadium value sits so low as an asset. Largely for accounting purposes.

I'm happy we have you here to pick up your sword and shield and defend your beloved AFL to the death at every opportunity.

Government gets first dibs if its put up for sale. Its considered part of the Victorian Governments major stadiums strategy.

In 20 years time they will need 1.5 to 2 billion to replace it which they don’t have

They should be putting money aside now from stadium revenue to allow for future rebuild rather than giving it out to the clubs

A 2 billion debt is a huge burden

Heck even soccer is struggling with the costs of Wembley and wanted to sell a share

There’s a reason most stadiums are publically owned

Even man utd needs hundreds of millions of govt money to help make their stadium stack up

I am sure the Vic government will fund any rebuild when it is required

@Wb1234 is a good bloke. We don't agree on everything but I love his passion and positivity about the game.
Other than posting on here I don’t do much anymore for league other than watch games on tv

I used to go to 60 games a year now I’m way too lazy. Read every book and big league and rlw.

Twice I went to get 1908 as a tat but luckily the tatooist was busy hahaha

I’ve always wondered how rugby league would’ve gone if not for the super league war

Finding out now

I hope every other Australian sport has to go through similar tribulations that rugby league did and see how they recover

Yes, thank you, I obviously was responding to the hypothetical.

"A long-awaited (13b dollar) merger between David Ellison’s Skydance Media and Paramount Global – the owner of Australian free-to-air station Network Ten – has been given the green light by the US media regulator"
"Skydance has promised to inject fresh capital and technology into the business."

Finally the paralysis that has gripped Ten/Paramount in Oz for the last several years will be over and we will see them emerge as a serious player in the Australian FTA/Streaming landscape looking for a flagpole broadcasting product to base their business in Oz around.
