Next TV deal discussion 2028 -

The nrl season doesn’t go for 12 months, they face significant churn each year. It’s already gone up 15% for this year, add a new rights deal for the nrl onto existing rights deal for afl and an increase of another 30% by 2028 is hardly unthinkable.
It goes for over 9 months from Feb to Nov these days & if you wanna see churn ,
then double the price in less then 2 years which would be commercial suicide & ridiculous.
Theres no way it goes up anymore then $10 a month into the early 2030's

Afl is getting 418 million pa and nrl obliterates it before you include two more teams

If Pvl wants a good deal then 450 million pa for the pay tv rights is the minimum

If he can jag 500 million for pay tv, 150 million from fta, nz 40 million and png say 10 million then yeh he’s done well
Something between 650 mill & 700 mill pa for all rights , is what they should be getting yes.
Anyway , we will know in about 6 months.

Even in the highly unlikely event it goes up to as much as $60 a month , its still only $1.50 a game
Thanks, Fox sports employee.

If it went to $60 a month the subscriber base would plummet off a cliff. No streaming service in the world would survive that pricing model.

Especially given that the rights to 4 games a week will likely be FTA. (9 owns the rights to Saturday currently, but sold it to Fox).

If you are a Broncos fan, it would be pointless even getting Kayo/Fox

It won't go to 60 for that very reason ,
so put the wrist slitting knife back in the draw petal LOL..

FTA won't get any more games , they'll stay at 3
STV will get the extra game starting as early as next year... & that will continue into the next deal.

I think the best case scenario for consumers is Ten/Paramount Plus getting the rights. If Kayo keeps the rights then the price will likely go over $50 a month due to big broadcast contracts for both NRL and AFL.

It won't..
whats the point of DAZN winning the next lot of NRL rights , putting the prices up by 75%
Then no one subscribing as a result ....
They find a price point , $10 a month on the basic service as Ive stated which is more then reasonable
while they don't make much or anything at all on the new deal , they keep their subscribers & their competitors at bay.

It’s already gone up 15% for this year… after an increase of 14% last year. It’s not 75%, it would only have to follow that pattern for it to reach $60 a month for 4K. A $10 price rise on basic would be a 33% increase, which when applied to 4K puts it at over $60 a month….

The equivalent Stan sport subscription is already $42 a month, for Nine to be a genuine player for the nrl rights that would have to rise substantially.

You can’t expect sports rights to keep going up exponentially and the subscriptions to watch them not follow suit.

I’m paying 90 with hbo Netflix and all Foxtel

40 for just kayo is a rort

Nrl digital memberships are 30 a month which include kayo

Foxtel needs to keep the nrl to cover for overpaying for the afl rights

League fans have been subsidising their afl rights since day one

Without the nrl they would probably have to charge 60 a month

Edit paying the nrl an extra 150 million would mean an increase of 7.35 across the 1.7 million subs kayo has just to cover the contract without extra for profit and inflation

Premium has gone up , not basic , its been $30 for 3 years now & is entering a 4th year at 1c cheaper for 2026.

Prices will go up for basic by about 10 bucks a month to cover a large chunk of the extra rights fees

& thats it !
anything else as I said is commercial suicide.

Isn't that exactly what they did with NFL GamePass all over the world? Got the rights, significantly reduced the service and quality, and then put the prices up 20%+.

I honestly would rather see 10/Paramount Plus get it. Create an NRL package for $20-25 a month on top of the Paramount subscription and you're all set. You could even bundle it with the UFC. Works out cheaper than paying for AFL (which I don't really have an interest in) on top of the NRL. Make it a global thing.

I don't follow that American crap

prices WILL go up , everything does eventually.
But not by 100 % to $60 per month .... not even close

Assuming you get one million subs that would only raise 300 million a year which is well below what they will have to pay

Kayo has 1.7 million subs and Foxtel a similar number a good chunk of whom would cancel Foxtel without nrl

Dazn didn’t pay 3 billion plus to see the networks value go to basically zero

DAZN are stuck paying for the AFL rights atm. How much can they legitimately afford to pay for the NRL rights without increasing the price beyond what consumers will want to pay? It’s all well and good that DAZN will want to keep the rights, but not if it means a huge monthly price increase for us. The fact they are already increasing prices isn’t a good sign.

I would rather the NRL go to a streamer that will put all their energy into the sport and keep it affordable for consumers. 10/Paramount or 9/Stan (depending on costs) would be good. The bonus with Paramount is their reach into America.

Dazn has Saudi money they can run it at a loss if they have too until they can cut the afl tv deal next time

Right now league fans are helping to pay for the overs the afl tv deal is getting. If they go afl fans would be up for an even bigger increase

Paramount did make a great offer to afl last time and Pvl has been saying more people have been interested

Number one factor now for me is money

But yeh if nine and Fox can lose the rights for the way they’ve treated league that would be awesome

Nrl needs to get proper value for its pay tv rights which it never has had

Why are you lying about this? The poster didn't say which plan, and given the posts prior to it were discussing the increase in premium, there is no reason to assume he was talking about basic. Last I checked, $45 to $60 is not a 100% increase.

Magamount would be the worst choice for the NRL and consumers.
